Celery root, growing and caring for it

Celery root is a fragrant and very useful plant. It is used to add various soups, salads, stews and pickles, and also use in folk medicine to treat many diseases. There are several types of celery: root, leaf and petiolate. Root is a valuable spicy vegetable culture, which includes many vitamins, mineral salts and carotene.

When choosing the cultivar of this culture, it should be borne in mind that Diamant and Yudinka (the root weight is 0.24 kg) are the largest root crops of middle-early varieties, Cupid, Egor and Esaul (weight 0.35-0.5 kg) from the mid-ripening ones, and From late-maturing - Maxim and Prague Giant (weight of tubers from 0,5 to 0,8 kg).

Celery root is grown with the help of seedlings, which should be prepared at the end of February, as this crop can last up to 190 days in a given crop. Seedlings are grown in boxes that should be filled with even humus and turf ground, and add a little sand. For a culture such as celery root, seeding is carried out with dry seeds, after which they are filled with a small amount of humus (0.2 cm layer). The optimum temperature for seedlings is from 15 to 18 degrees.

Seedlings require moderate watering. Picks are made when 1-2 leaves appear, in small cups or pots. Two weeks after the picking, the seedlings must be fertilized with mineral fertilizers. To do this, prepare a solution at the rate of 1 teaspoon of nitro-phosphorus fertilizer per 3 liters of water, and one celery plant requires 2 tablespoons of the resulting solution. Before planting in the ground, it is necessary to temper the plant at a temperature of 12 to 15 degrees for several days. Before planting, it is also necessary to water the seedlings, and prepare the landing site in a special way. To do this, you need to dig a patch and make 3 kg of humus and 1 tablespoon of nitro-phosphorus fertilizer, then mix it all with the ground. Then the garden is watered with a solution of biohumus (10 liters of water is taken 1 tablespoon), and on 1 sq.m. Soil requires 2-3 liters of such fertilizer.

It should be remembered that the celery root, planted on May 1-10, should be planted with a distance of 20 cm between the rows and 15 cm between the individual plants. Also important is the fact that the plant needs to be planted at a depth that was before, because if you plant it deeply, instead of one tuber, many small roots will grow.

Celery root requires a care, consisting in regular watering, weeding, loosening the soil, and also introducing nutrients. The first fertilizing is carried out a month after planting. To do this, a complex vegetable granulated fertilizer, made on an organic basis and intended for long-term action, is mixed in amounts of 2 tablespoons with 10 liters of water, which also contains 1 teaspoon of urea. For each square meter, 2-3 liters of the solution is required.

Celery root does not tolerate the breakage of its green leaves, as this will have a very negative effect on the growth of root vegetables. In order to obtain smooth root crops, it is recommended that in mid-July, the soil around the plants be wiped off and wiped with a cloth, and also cut off the side roots. After the slices dry, after 15 minutes, root crops should be rounded, while watering only after a few days. Harvest is harvested in late September, after which the roots should be poured with sand and stored at a temperature of 0 to 5 degrees. Do not do this at lower temperatures, because the roots will become coarse and lose their taste.
