Nutrition and diet after intestinal surgery

The reasons for such a radical form of treatment are huge. And the same question - nutrition after surgery on the intestines - is in front of all patients.

3 feeding periods

The first period lasts two to three days immediately after the operation. The diet these days is the strictest.

The second period is from the 4th to the 5th-7th day after surgery. The duration of this period depends on the process of recovery of the patient.

The third period is from the 7th to the 30th-40th day after the operation. The biggest and most insidious, because I want everything, but still it's impossible.

Prohibited foods after intestinal surgery

  1. Alcohol.
  2. Fresh baked goods, especially baking.
  3. Fatty grades of meat.
  4. Dishes containing a large amount of salt and spices, as well as all kinds of smoking.
  5. Milk raw (homemade), fatty dairy and sour-milk products, cheese.
  6. Friable and bean porridge, pasta.
  7. Vegetables, including raw (especially cabbage, tomatoes, asparagus).
  8. Mushrooms.
  9. Nuts.
  10. Fatty soups. Cold, dairy and bean soups.
  11. Cocoa, coffee, grape juice, carbonated and chilled drinks.

The first period

Diet after surgery on the intestine is subject to strict rules.

This period is the most difficult for the patient. Nutrition on these days should maximally relieve the gastrointestinal tract. This is done for several reasons:

  1. To reduce the motor activity of the intestine, as when digesting solid and fatty foods the intestine actively moves.
  2. Decreased secretory function. Bile and enzymes can dissolve suture material, which is superimposed on the intestine. If dissolution of the joints occurs, then peritonitis begins. And this condition is dangerous for the life of the patient, and the duration of the recovery process increases several times. But the mucous tissues of a person heal fairly quickly. Therefore, after 3-4 days in case of well-being, allow the relaxation of the diet.

All meals on these days should be liquid or gelatinous, warm, not salty, and a volume of not more than one glass at a time. You need to eat 7-8 times a day.

In the first day, as a rule, the patient is in intensive care under the watchful eyes of doctors. In the first 10-12 hours he can not eat and drink anything at all. But basically there is no appetite in the patients themselves - everything hurts and you want to sleep after anesthesia. So it seems to the patient himself.

However, there is another explanation for this. Doctors during the operation and after it introduce intravenous infusion solutions that nourish the body. It is thanks to these solutions that in the first hours the patient does not feel hungry.

After 10-12 hours the patient is only allowed to drink liquid. The patient's diet includes various compotes, broths and vegetable broths. Meat broth is allowed, but only half. The total volume of the liquid must be at least 2 liters. By the end of the first day you can eat fruit jelly.

On the second day after the operation, a variety of fluids can be introduced into the patient's diet. Meat is low-fat broth, you can chicken. Fruit jelly and natural juices pleasantly diversify the menu after surgery on the intestines. It is allowed to add oil to the meat and rice broth (if you have not previously attached rice).

Starting from the third day, the diet after the operation on the intestine allows you to clear out - with normal health - to liquid (mashed) porridge, meat and fish souffle, one soft-boiled egg.

By this time the patient has a brutal appetite. But you need to restrain it. The diet is not much different from the previous day. You can add low-fat cream, and reduce the frequency of food intake up to 6 times a day.

With sour-milk products you need to be careful. If earlier the patient had intolerance of milk, even in a deep childhood, now is not the time for experiments. Sour-milk products may cause undesirable effects. For example, kefir with high fat content or milk can cause flatulence, burger in some people provokes constipation. Cheese sometimes strengthens. All these phenomena are very undesirable. But if the patient has not previously observed an inadequate reaction to sour-milk and dairy products, then after the operation he can safely drink them.

If the patient develops pain, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, loss of consciousness, diarrhea, or constipation when expanding the diet, you should go back to the previous menu.

Second period

With a good current of the postoperative period for 3-4 days the patient is transferred to a general ward. Diet after surgery on the intestine should still be sparing for the intestines. But it is already more diverse, and gradual loading of the intestines with more solid food begins.

You can enter the following cereals: wheat, rye, oatmeal, rice, semolina. Of these, you can prepare mucous porridges on the water. You can also prepare with these cereals mucous soups on a meat broth. Varied menu with fish and meat soufflé, steam protein omelets. And you can also enjoy sweet mousse and low-fat dairy products.

But if the patient's state of health is unsatisfactory, then the food after the operation on the intestine remains the same until improvement occurs. Also at this time, doctors wait for the patient to stand alone.

The third period

In the normal course of the disease on the 7-10th day after the operation, the patient is discharged from the hospital.

It would seem that the end of all diets. But no ... The diet should be at least another 2-3 weeks.

Diet after the operation on the intestine during this period is the following. Preference should be given to dishes cooked for a couple. The fat content of broths and other first courses is low. Accurately with vegetables and fruits, which can cause excessive gas formation! You can enter without fear all dairy products from the 14th day after the operation. And most importantly, the chair should be regular, and the act of defecation is easy.

Recipes after intestinal surgery

Mucous soup

Unfortunately, not many housewives know how to cook it. And it sounds not tasty, but by making this recipe, you will become a fan of this dish. In boiling water (1 liter), sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons of oatmeal. Cook until completely dissolving the flakes, about 1 hour. Then filter, but do not wipe.

In the first period after the operation, a little salt and eat. In the second period after an operation, it is possible to add an egg-milk mixture. And in the third period, you can add a little potatoes, grated carrots and boil again. Next, wipe through a sieve - and the more delicious slimy soup is ready.

Meat or fish soufflé

To prepare, you need 100 grams of stuffing. In our case, this should be minced meat from low-fat varieties of meat or fish. One egg yolk of chicken eggs, 20-30 ml of milk and a teaspoon of mango. Mix everything, add egg white.

The resulting mixture is put on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 15-30 minutes until cooked. You can also cook in a double boiler.

Bon appetit and a speedy recovery!
