Menarche: what is it?

At the age of 11 (9) to 14 (15) years, girls show the first signs of puberty, which serve as signals about the imminent offensive of menarche. These characteristics include:

  • A sharp jump in growth, and some also in weight;
  • Development of mammary glands;
  • Underarm and pubic hair;
  • Possible deterioration of the skin, the appearance of acne and acne.

The culmination of all these changes is menarche - the first menstruation. Menarche - a line between childhood and adolescence, beginning a new stage in the life of the girl. She becomes a girl.

Menarche - the first menstruation

In different cultures, this event is treated differently. For example, in Muslim countries the menarche is celebrated by the whole family. Little girls from a very early age know what a menarche is, that this is a very important day in their life, and they are waiting for this momentous day. In the eastern culture for any girl from childhood, a priority is a happy marriage, the birth of children, service to her husband. In Western civilization, it is not accepted to advertise it. However, the other extreme is also undesirable, when the girl generally does not know anything about menarche - that this is absolutely normal phenomenon and occurs with all women. Sometimes the lack of information about such an important aspect can lead to undesirable consequences: a girl who finds her blood on her underwear is horrified, thinks that something is wrong with her, and she is not let shyness share with adults. Therefore, doctors and psychologists advise mothers somewhere from the age of 9 to tell their daughters about the physiological characteristics of the female body, what should happen to her in the near future, about menarche - that this is the beginning of a new stage in her life, about how To this to treat and prepare. This is also important because girls may experience periodic pains in the abdomen, more abundant leucorrhoea (discharge from the genital organs), the appearance of acne, several months before the first menstrual period. Nevertheless, with the onset of the first menstruation, the girl's sexual development does not end: it takes years for her to become a full-fledged woman and be able to give birth to children without problems.

Period of menstruation

Initially for many girls the duration of the menstrual cycle is from 28-30 days, and reguli (menstruation days) basically last from 3 to 5 days. However, only 50% of girls immediately set a normal cycle, the rest it normalizes for several months, even a year after menarche. What is it? Pathology? Most likely - no, although there may be exceptions. Of course, if this continues after one year, then this should be a cause for concern, and parents need to see a doctor. Scanty, or, conversely, too abundant menstruation is also an occasion for medical examination. As already noted above, the period of onset of menarche is a segment of 9 to 15 years, therefore, an earlier or, conversely, late first menstruation is a signal of alarm. Do not be afraid of going to the gynecologist. Perhaps the girl does not have any problems, but for her own good, you need to establish the true cause of premature or late menstruation.
