Infusion therapy - a method of correction of impaired functions of the body

Proved is the fact that the body of any person, regardless of his age, 75 to 80% of water. In this environment, metabolic processes take place, the transportation of various substances and dissolved gases, so the ability to influence the functions of various organs and body systems (infusion therapy) in modern medicine is becoming an increasingly popular method of treatment. With the infusion of solutions of different composition into the vascular bed, with different physicochemical characteristics, the physician can quickly respond to the symptoms of pathological conditions and restore the constancy of the internal environment of the organism.

Infusion therapy - what is it?

Each doctor will say that infusion therapy is the introduction of solutions of various composition into the body. In some cases, an additional amount of electrolytes is added to the infusion, which helps to control the acid-base state of the blood, in others - of colloidal solutions, regulating the amount of fluid in the body, thirdly, blood components and blood substitutes can enter the vascular bed. In each case, a doctor (or a consultation of specialists) decides which medication is indicated to the patient, and selects the right volume of infusion solution or the concentration of the desired drug.

What is the need for infusion therapy?

Most often, infusion therapy is necessary to correct the volume of fluid that circulates in the vascular and extravascular channels, or maintain the consistency of the body's salt composition (ion balance). In many ways, it is from these factors that the body's ability to regulate the acid-base state and remove toxic substances depends. Without removing toxic products from the body, it is impossible to imagine the recovery of the patient from a large number of infectious diseases and inflammatory processes, recovery in the postoperative period and after poisoning.

Much less infuzionno-transfusion therapy is used for passive immunization of the patient's body in the prevention and treatment of some infectious diseases or for the nutrition of seriously ill patients with the inability to get food through the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, this method of treatment is used for parenteral administration of various drugs - the use of this method of treatment allows you to quickly achieve the desired result (stabilization of the patient's condition), which is in demand in intensive care units.

How is the infusion therapy performed?

Only the doctor can decide whether or not infusion therapy is indicated in a particular patient, what solutions or medications should be used to administer it and how to prescribe the dosage. Regardless of the age of the patient, treatment should be carried out not only under constant medical supervision, but also under constant instrumental and laboratory monitoring of the basic indices of the vital activity of the organism. Particular attention deserves infusion therapy in children, because this method of treatment allows you to quickly replace the loss of fluid and salts to which the body of a small patient is very sensitive.

In the vast majority of cases, transfusion therapy requires reliable venous access, through which all prescribed medications will be administered. Depending on the patient's condition, even before the infusion therapy is started, a permanent catheter is introduced into the large peripheral or one of the central veins, the use of which allows for long (regular) infusions with minimal discomfort.
