The mammary gland is sick: what is the reason?

Every woman should pay attention to her health. Of course, not any changes should cause panic, but if the breast gland hurts, this can be the reason for going to the doctor of the relevant specialty.

In general, this phenomenon is quite common. Morbidity of the mammary glands has been repeatedly noted by every woman. Quite often the chest hurts in the middle of the cycle. And this is normal. But it happens that this condition is not associated with menstruation. In addition, the pain is of different intensity: someone notes the inconvenience, and someone - quite a sharp pain.

Mastalgia, or pain in the thoracic gland, is divided into two large groups: cyclic and non-cyclic. Cyclic pains are associated with the menstrual cycle. The mammary gland is sick after the menstrual period, closer to the middle of the cycle. Immediately before menstruation, pain can be intensified. In turn, non-cyclic pains are caused by some other reasons.

Now let's take a closer look at the cyclic pain. This is a fairly frequent phenomenon that occurs in women aged 30 to the end of menstruation. This type of pain is absent during the menopause for understandable reasons. In most women, if the chest is hurting, this pain is insignificant. It rather looks like some discomfort. But in one out of ten women it can be quite tangible and even sharp. In addition, the pain can last for up to two weeks. Immediately 3-5 days before the onset of menstruation, a critical period occurs, when the pain is the strongest, and immediately after it stops. Cyclic pain sensations are also associated with swollen glands. In general, the cause of this condition is the hormonal changes that occur throughout the cycle. This is due to the fact that the mammary glands are very sensitive to the hormonal background of the body. It is not necessary to treat it, because it is quite natural and does not indicate problems of women's health. Only in case of very severe pain is it necessary to take the appropriate drugs, for example, paracetamol or ibuprofen.

In addition, cyclic pain can be exacerbated by the use of certain drugs. These may be oral contraceptive or hormone replacement therapy, antidepressants, some drugs that reduce blood pressure, etc. In these situations, conventional painkillers may not help. Then the doctor prescribes medicines that specifically act on this type of pain, and they must be taken not only in the case of sensations, but constantly. Just do not forget about the side effects.

The mammary gland also hurts, in another case, when there is no connection with the menstrual cycle. The pain in this case can be either permanent or temporary. The typical age is from 40 years. But, of course, there are exceptions. A variety of factors can provoke soreness:

  • Benign neoplasm. They appear for various reasons and do not have a significant negative impact on health.
  • Inflammatory processes. They can be associated with infection or, for example, with stagnant milk.
  • Shingles, a relatively rare cause.
  • Structural disorders of the chest, which occur infrequently.
  • Stretching of pectoral muscles. Think about it. What did you do the day before?
  • Malignant diseases of the breast.

About cancer is worth talking separately. Many women, feeling pain in the mammary glands, immediately suspect the worst - cancer. But in fact, it manifests itself earlier: in the form of painless education. If the chest gland hurts, then this indicates the neglect of the process.

Thus, the pain itself is not yet an indicator of the problem. The doctor should be consulted with the following additional symptoms: an increase in lymph nodes in the armpit, the presence of secretions from the nipples, redness of the gland and its swelling.
