Magnificent and mighty Yenisei: tributaries, description

A significant volume of the water resources of Russia is represented by the Yenisei River, the largest river in the country. Almost 600 cubic kilometers of annual water volumes it takes to the expanses of the Kara Sea. This is more than all the waters carried to the seas by all the rivers of European Russia, and three times the runoff of the Volga.

About where this great river originates, and how many tributaries the Yenisey has, what its location is, and many interesting things can be learned from this article.

Geographical position

Yenisei, whose tributaries are the famous rivers of Russia, extends mainly along the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The river flows from the south to the north almost strictly along the meridian, so it divides the territory of Russia roughly in half. And its pool is represented by three completely different parts. In the upper part the river is surrounded on all sides by mountains, and the middle and lower serve as a boundary between Western Siberia (lowland) and Middle Siberian Plateau.

A curious fact connected with the Yenisei is that the city of Kyzyl, located exactly in the center of the Asian part of Eurasia, is located at the junction of the sources of this mighty river (Big and Small Yenisei). It is here that you can see an obelisk with an interesting inscription: "Center of Asia".

And there is a place where the Yenisei breaks up into numerous sleeves. It is called "Forty Yeniseyev".

What is the largest influx of the Yenisei? How many are there? This will be discussed below.

Yenisei River: description, origins

The river originates from two sources: Ka-Khem and Biy-Khem (respectively, Small and Large Yenisei), then flows into the Yenisei Gulf near the Kara Sea. The river Biy-Khem (from it, usually, the length of the Yenisei is calculated) originates at the very bottom of the Topograf peak on the slope of the Eastern Sayan.

The official source of the Yenisei is the Kara-Balyk (high-mountain) lake, located in the Eastern Sayan Mountains. Hence the origin of the river r. Biy-Khem.

The length of the river from the source of the Small Yenisei is 4287 km, from the source of the Great Yenisei is 4,092 km, the basin has an area of 2,580 thousand km 2 . According to this indicator, the Yenisei is on the second place among the Russian rivers (the Ob at the first) and the 7th - on the planet. The hydrographic network of the river includes more than 198 thousand rivers, the total length of which in total is more than 884 thousand kilometers, and more than 126 thousand lakes with an area of about 52 thousand km 2 .

The huge depth of the Yenisei makes it possible to climb sea vessels along it for almost 1000 kilometers. Maximum depth in it reaches 70 meters. Width in the mouth (rn archipelago Brekhov Islands) - 75 kilometers. In these places, from the side of the ship going along the Yenisei, one can not even see the shores.

The high water Yenisei: tributaries, food

Yenisei belongs to the form of rivers with mixed feeding, with a predominance of snow feeding, which accounts for about 50%, from rainfall - about 38%, and from underground feeding - about 12% (mostly in the upper reaches).

For these places, spring floods and floods (summer) are typical. In the upper Yenisei floods begin in May or even in April, on the average - a little earlier, and on the lower one only from the middle of May to the beginning of June (Dudinka).

Many tributaries of the Yenisei are also numerous. The list is as follows:

1. Right: Us, Tuba, Kebezh, Sisim, Sida, Mana, Angara, Kan, Kureika, Bolshoy Pete, Bakhta, Podkamennaya Tunguska, Lower Tunguska, Dudinka, Khantayka.

2. Left: Abakan, Khemchik, Kem, Kantegir, Sym, Kas, Yelogui, Turukhan, Dubce, Little Heta, Tanama, Big Heta, Gryaznukha.

The Angara River is the rightmost largest tributary of the Yenisei River flowing from the great Baikal. Moreover, the right tributaries are leading in terms of the volume of water delivered and the catchment area. However, statistics show that about 1 year out of 10 years, the Lower Tunguska (the second influx in terms of magnitude) exceeds the Angara by annual flow.

Legend of the Angara

The Yenisei is beautiful. Its tributaries are also magnificent in their own way. The amazing legend of one of them emphasizes the delightful and mysterious beauty of these places.
About one of the numerous tributaries - the Angara River - there is a remarkable legend.
Baikal gray-haired loved his daughter - the beautiful Angara. And he hid it deep in his waters from the eyes of strangers in the rock walls.

But when the time came for her to marry her, he began to look for a worthy groom closer, so as not to send her to distant lands. However, Angara did not like his father's choice - the neighbor Irkut, noble and rich, and she did not marry him.

And once her acquaintance Seagull told about the Yenisei, about his strength and courage, about how he broke through the Sayan Mountains and persistently seeks to the Arctic Ocean. She told me about what eyes he had: similar to the emerald and pine needles of mountain cedar under the sun.
The beautiful Angara gave greetings to this Yenisei, and he decided to see her. Thus, he appointed an appointment to the Angara on the way to the ocean at Strelka (village).

Angara with great joy accepted the offer from the Yenisei. And yet her father decided to protect the beautiful woman and put her evil sorcerer-crow to her. It was not there. Angara helped to break free brothers and sisters (rivers and streams), washing the rock.
And the meeting took place at Strelka, where they forever merged and carried their mighty beautiful waters to the great ocean.

origin of name

The river Yenisei received its modern name from the Evenks, a people living in Siberia. They used to call her Johannesi. In the 17th century the Cossacks who came here changed the Evenki root name. Since that time on all geographical atlases and maps it is indicated exactly the name of the river, which the Cossacks have changed.

The river may well be a Russian symbol. Magnificent and extensive Yenisei, the tributaries of which play an important role in its formation. Its dimensions are inferior only to the famous Nile and Amazon.

Such large cities as Abakan, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Kansk, Bratsk, Ust-Ilimsk, Angarsk, Minusinsk, Igarka, Dudinka, Norilsk are located in the basin of the Yenisei River.
