Wood kangaroo is an amazing animal

In Australia, lives an amazing animal - Wallaby. It can adjust the temperature of its own body, jump from tree to tree after 9 meters and prolong the pregnancy. Scientists continue to study tree kangaroos, discovering new amazing facts about these cute and pretty little animals.

Appearance

These animals are of the type of chordates, a class of mammals, this is a genus in the family of kangaroo. At first glance, tree kangaroo resembles the small size of a bear, because it is completely covered with thick brown hair, only in places (belly and shoulders) it has a bright red or yellow color. But, looking closely, you understand that before you an amazing, rare animal.

Wood kangaroos move easily and carefree through trees and vines with the help of flexible claws. Despite the fact that these unusual animals have a decent mass, they are surprisingly agile and dexterous. And what kind of jumpers they are, there's nothing to say. Easily can jump from tree to tree for a distance of up to 10 meters. Needless to say that they do not descend from the trees, but jump off. Even the height of 20 meters does not frighten them. A wood kangaroo, whose photo you can see in the article, is found infrequently in nature, but if you are lucky enough to cross it, then try to make friends. These animals are very friendly, they will never attack or offend.

Features of wood kangaroos

The female and the male can not be immediately distinguished from each other, since their dimensions are almost the same. The tree kangaroo in Australia has a growth of 70 to 90 cm, rarely up to one meter, and the weight is about 9-15 kg. Sometimes there are bogatyrs weighing up to 20 kg.

Animals live on trees. Especially loved by females of this species are tropical broadleaf forests. They choose trees more tightly and spend most of their life on them alone, less likely to get into small flocks. Valabi, wood kangaroos, have the ability to maintain their temperature in normal conditions in any heat. This amazing ability allows animals with thick fur in hot Australia to feel great.

The wood kangaroo drinks a lot of water, eats leaves, very fond of passion fruit and eucalyptus leaves. If animals are driven into captivity, they are fed with corn, potatoes in uniform, various fruits and eggs.

Lifestyle

In Australia, there is a legend that a long time ago a male kangaroo attacked a child, and since then locals have begun hunting for these animals, so they became unsociable and hid as far from a person as possible. Seldom it is possible to meet them even in the deepest frequency, they move almost inaudibly, besides merge with the coloring of trees.

A tree kangaroo sleeps during the day, and at night goes out to fish in search of plant food. Animals are tied to their habitat, guarding it from predators and not allowing anyone to approach it. On average, the kangaroo lives for about 20 years and in all of its life it may not even change the tree, only descends from it to the watering place and for food.

Place of distribution

Most often, tree kangaroos are found in the tropics and rain forests of Australia, New Guinea. A rare case to meet this unusual animal in the mountains or on the plains, nevertheless, it happens.

About the mating season

The mating period in wallaby is absent, therefore they reproduce throughout the whole year. It is extremely rare for females to have more than one calf. The kid does not want to step back from his mother in the first years. Pregnancy in females lasts no more than a year. Having been born, the baby immediately moves to the bag and there is one year or more, feeding on the mother's milk.

Unbelievable but true

Not so long ago scientists discovered a unique fact: a female kangaroo tree is able to prolong the period of its pregnancy in case of danger. It happens that the fetus dies in the womb of the mother, and then another comes to replace it.

Australian biologists have hypothesized that tree kangaroos can help humanity in the event of a catastrophe, namely global warming. Stomachs of livestock, for example bulls or rams, release a large amount of methane into the air. And indeed it is. And the stomach of tree kangaroos, due to reasons unknown to science, can process methane. Obviously, this happens with the help of bacteria. If in the near future scientists study these bacteria, they can use them to purify the air on Earth.

Needless to say, these rare animals are closely monitored by environmental services, they are trying their best to increase the population of amazing creatures.
