Kizhi. Attractions and memorial places

The Republic of Karelia is famous not only for its stunning natural beauty, but also for the many places to visit. The low population density, harsh natural conditions and remoteness from major cities make travel a real dive into the culture, life and customs of the local population.

Kizhi Island, located in Onega Lake, is known far beyond the borders of the country thanks to Kizhi's Kista. This ensemble of wooden architecture is unique and unique, and many tourists come to see it with their own eyes.

Pogost Kizhi is a nature reserve recognized as an object of the national heritage of the Russian Federation. In addition, it is an object of the World Cultural and Natural Significance of UNESCO. The ensemble has an important historical significance and tells about life on the island in the distant past.

Museum-Reserve Kizhi consists of several buildings, the date of construction of which - 18-19 century. The ensemble includes a bell tower and two churches. They are fenced with a special wooden barrage that mimics the traditional fortifications erected in those times.

In 1966, a large number of traditional buildings from other settlements were brought here, after which the Kizhi museum was established on the territory. The sights, buildings and structures in it reflect the unique traditional architecture of the region. The skill of the carpenters who created the buildings of this ensemble was unusually high, but by the present time, unfortunately, it has practically been lost.

Kizhi's vibe, whose sights are known all over the world, is also famous for the unique Transfiguration Church. This structure is considered one of the most outstanding in the ensemble. It is built according to ancient technology, without the use of nails, only with the help of an ax. In fact, this is not quite true, there are nails in the building, but they were used only to build domes.

The history of the church begins in 1714. After that, it was re-erected due to a fire from lightning. The height of the structure is more than 30 meters, the summit consists of 22 chapters. The premises of the church are not heated and are used for services only in the warm season.

The church consists of several tiers, each of which is decorated with heads of different sizes and shapes. Inside is a four-tiered iconostasis, on which there are a total of more than 20 icons of varying degrees of antiquity.

Not less remarkable are other buildings in Kizhi's Pogost. The sights of this place really admire not only the uniqueness of the constructions, but also the organic. The Church of the Intercession was built warmer, and worship services take place during the winter cold. They rebuilt it later than Preobrazhenskaya. In this regard, the design and design completely complement the main ensemble, without distracting attention from the main structure. The tent belfry, which has survived to our time, was built in 1862 on the site of the old one. But the wooden fence is not preserved.

Summer is undoubtedly the best time to visit Kizhi Island, whose sights will leave an indelible mark in the memory of everyone who has been here.
