Itching, burning, dryness in the intimate zone in women: treatment. Remedies for dryness in the intimate area

Almost every woman can face a situation when unpleasant sensations appear in the external genital area, which are expressed by itching, burning or dryness. The reasons for this phenomenon can be completely different. Sometimes itching or burning is an informative symptom of the disease, for example, an allergic reaction or venereal infection. As a rule, the treatment is aimed at eliminating the cause, after which the discomfort disappears.

In addition to the disease, there are reasons that have nothing to do with it.

Concomitant Symptoms

In a healthy woman, vaginal mucus serves to moisten the walls of the vagina, thus preventing dryness and discomfort. In addition, it is a natural defense of the body against the penetration of pathogenic bacteria, as well as a barrier to their spread. If there are any failures in the process of producing this mucus, in addition to unpleasant sensations, there may be problems in the sexual life, because the sexual act becomes painful.

In addition to itching, burning and dryness, there may also appear:

  • Pain during intercourse;
  • Tingling;
  • Feeling of pressure or pulsation in the vagina;
  • Yellow-green discharge;
  • Frequent urge to urinate.

Causes of itching and burning that are not associated with a disease

Such unpleasant feelings can arise because of:

  • Ignoring the rules of intimate hygiene (each girl should remember that to maintain health, it is necessary to conduct daily water procedures of external genital organs and change underwear);
  • Use of synthetic underwear;
  • Allergies to soap or shower gel, pads, tampons and other means of intimate hygiene.

To get rid of unpleasant sensations in the genital area it is recommended to eliminate the cause of their appearance. However, if this did not help, then itching, burning or dryness was triggered by the disease.

If itching and burning are accompanied by secretions

If these unpleasant sensations are also supplemented with atypical discharges, then the organism unambiguously has an infection that is actively spreading. Normally, vaginal discharge occurs, but there is no discomfort. If they have changed their color and other external characteristics, it is necessary to contact the gynecologist for advice as soon as possible. Itching, burning, dryness in the intimate zone can signal the pathological processes in the female body and the presence of the disease of the genitourinary system.

There are several diseases, the main symptoms of which are itching, burning and white discharge.

Candidiasis

The cause of the disease is Candida fungus. Normally, it is in the vagina of every woman, but the balance of good and bad bacteria does not allow it to actively breed. But in the presence of some factors, this balance is violated, and infection occurs. Such factors are:

  • Long-term antibiotic treatment;
  • Initiation of the sexual partner;
  • Decreased immunity due to another disease;
  • Hormonal disorders;
  • diabetes.

In addition to itching and burning, the following symptoms are present:

  • Cheesy discharge;
  • Sour smell;
  • Pain during urination.

In this case, treatment of dryness and burning in the intimate zone requires the use of antibacterial agents. Their action is aimed at neutralizing and destroying the fungus - the main culprit of the disease. Antibiotics against candidiasis are available in the form of candles, tablets and ointments. The main rule - treatment should be both sex partners.

Bacterial vaginosis

This disease is characterized by a violation of the bacterial balance in the vagina, in which the number of bad microorganisms increases dramatically. This is the main cause of infectious inflammation, or bacterial vaginosis. In addition to itching and burning, there is an unpleasant smell that can not be eliminated even by rapid water procedures, and atypical discharge (usually white, rarely - grayish or greenish, stretching, thick).

The causes of this disease are:

  • Long-term use of antibiotics;
  • Use of spermicides;
  • Reception of oral contraceptives;
  • Hormonal imbalance (occurs during pregnancy or menopause).

Treatment is carried out only after diagnosis, the purpose of which is to determine the type of bacteria that provoked an imbalance. Only after this is antimicrobial therapy.

Genital herpes

In this case, in addition to itching and burning, a small rash appears, which is a small bubble, inside which is a yellowish content. After these bubbles are opened, erosions are formed, which give a burning sensation.

This disease is transmitted sexually. In many cases, the patient is not aware of the infection, since immunity does not allow infection to spread. However, when the functions of immune infection decrease, the herpes virus becomes more active. The danger of the disease is a constant relapse, as well as asymptomatic leakage. In addition, the disease is a danger for the embryo, but only if the future mother was infected during pregnancy for the first time.

Itching during pregnancy

There is dryness and burning in the intimate area and during pregnancy. This is due to violations of the hormonal background of a woman and reducing overall immunity. This contributes to increased vaginal secretion, as well as the activation of pathogenic bacteria. In addition, if the organism of a woman before pregnancy was the pathogens of thrush or other fungal diseases, the itching becomes strong enough and brings discomfort to everyday life. Do not engage in self-medication in this case and self-diagnoses yourself, even if you are confident in it. During pregnancy all appointments should be performed by a doctor on the basis of a survey. Self-medication is unacceptable.

In addition, you can protect yourself and the future baby if you can prevent the spread of infection before pregnancy and take preventive treatment in advance.

Discomfort after childbirth

This problem, namely, dryness in the intimate zone, is one of the most common among young mothers. This is due to hormonal disorders in the body, so it's enough to just wait for a while, when the body returns to its prenatal state. Dryness of the vagina is caused by a significant decrease in estrogen, which during pregnancy was several times more.

Within six weeks after delivery, doctors do not recommend starting a sex life, as the wounds need to heal completely. Help in this can be by lubricating with vitamin A, which helps to accelerate regeneration and increase moisture. If the scar feels tactile, it can be lubricated with olive oil. If the symptoms, including itching and dryness, persist for several months, you need to consult a gynecologist. It may be necessary to perform a plastic surgery to smooth the scar.

Why there is discomfort during menstruation

Statistics say that itching felt in an intimate place during menstruation was felt by every woman at least once in her life. This is due to the fact that during this period various hormonal failures can occur in the body. In addition, itching and dryness of the intimate zone can occur against the background of disruption of the thyroid and pancreas. Also, diabetes can provoke discomfort, for the same reason. After stabilizing the hormonal background, itching and dryness go away by themselves, and no additional treatment is required in this case.

In addition, the cause of discomfort may be infection, but if this phenomenon is repeated with an enviable regularity, then the cause of this phenomenon is likely to decrease the level of the hormone estrogen at certain periods of life. However, to be convinced of this, it is still necessary to consult a gynecologist for advice. Perhaps, nevertheless, it will be necessary to use special vaginal tablets or suppositories, which include hyaluronic and lactic acid.

Unpleasant sensations after sexual intercourse

Sometimes a sexual act can not bring the pleasure that is expected of him. And it can be associated with burning and itching in the intimate area immediately after sex. One of the causes of unpleasant sensations can be an allergic reaction to latex or flavorings of the condom. If this cause is excluded because of the impossibility, then thrush in the intimate area of thrush, or candidiasis. This disease develops as a result of the multiplication of the fungus of the genus Candida, in which, in addition to dryness, white curd fuming also appears.

This disease is treated for 1 to 2 weeks, depending on neglect. And to go through the treatment you need not only a woman, but her sexual partner. Men also have symptoms of thrush in the form of itching and burning, but they are less pronounced.

If dryness and itching in the intimate zone are caused by allergy to condom components or simply insufficient secretion, it is recommended to use special lubricants that almost immediately moisturize the vagina, thereby increasing the slipperiness of its walls. In most cases, they are water based using natural emollient ingredients, for example, collagen, silk extract or bamboo extract. In addition, these products can include antibacterial and antifungal ingredients, which will be an excellent prevention of diseases. The means are also produced on the basis of glycerin, however, it is rather difficult to wash them off after sexual intercourse, which may, on the contrary, provoke the development of infection.

Dryness in the intimate area with menopause

Unfortunately, this period sooner or later occurs in every representative of the weaker sex. In women over the age of 45, dryness in the intimate zone without discharge and itching can signal the onset of menopause. During menopause, the epithelium of the vagina becomes much thinner and loses its former elasticity due to a decrease in the production of collagen fibers. In addition, the amount of vaginal secretion decreases, which causes unpleasant sensations, in particular, dryness in the intimate zone in women.

All these factors provoke atrophic processes in the perineum and vagina. Itching and burning can be so strong that it is simply unrealistic to endure them. It is because of combing the affected areas and there is a re-infection, as well as the development of additional erosions and ulcers.

Do antibiotics affect the health of intimate places?

One of the main causes of dryness, itching and burning in the area of external genitalia in women is the use of antibiotics. Antibacterial drugs are designed to eliminate infection and inflammation, but with it the natural flora of the intestine and vagina is also killed. Also, the general immunity of the organism is significantly reduced, because of which the latter is no longer able to fight the infection, and pathogenic microorganisms multiply. This is what leads to an imbalance of the vaginal microflora, which causes itching, burning and dryness.

Causes of itching and burning during urination

Unlike candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis, itching and burning during urination are provoked by completely different bacteria and infections. In particular, the urinary system of a woman is affected. Bacteria from the vagina can penetrate into the organs of the urinary system (urethra, ureters, bladder, kidneys), thus provoking the disease. Normally, the process of urination is not uncomfortable, which is why itching, burning, pain can indicate the presence of the disease. It can be cystitis, urethritis, urolithiasis and others. An accurate diagnosis can only be made by a doctor.

Diagnostic Features

The female intimate zone is very sensitive to various pathogens, which is why even with a small amount of them, very unpleasant symptoms may appear, for example, dryness in the intimate area (treatment depends on the diagnosis). To diagnose and prescribe treatment, you need to contact a gynecologist who will direct you to conduct research:

  • blood test;
  • Analysis of urine;
  • A smear from the vagina to determine the type of pathogen and its sensitivity to antibiotics.

Only after the diagnosis the doctor makes a treatment regimen.

Principles of treatment
