In St. Petersburg Discussed How to Educate a Responsible Citizen

On the eve of Human Rights Day, December 9, 2011, in the Central City Children's Library. Pushkin went round the table "Human Rights and the Rights of the Child: Education and Education." He was dedicated to how to educate a citizen who knows his rights and obligations through joint efforts of educational institutions, libraries and public organizations .

The organizers of the event - activists of the Charitable Foundation "Youth for Human Rights" gathered leaders, teachers of St. Petersburg schools and their students, leaders of volunteer movements, representatives of libraries and all those interested in modern technologies of human rights education and training. In total, more than 90 guests gathered.

Within the framework of the round table there was a presentation of the book for the elementary school "The rights of the child are your rights". The book provides an accessible language about the rights of each child, nevertheless, its main goal is not learning, but the knowledge of the basic rights through the senses. Author of the book Natalia Eliasberg, Professor of the Department of Social Education of the St. Petersburg Academy of Postgraduate Teacher Education, President of the St. Petersburg NGO The Humanitarian Pedagogical Center "Citizen of the XXI Century" told not only about how this book was written, but also about her role in the system of civil-law education.

In turn, Ruslan Khusainov, the leader of the International Movement "Youth for Human Rights" in St. Petersburg, spoke about the educational and methodological materials on the human rights of this organization, including the short film "The History of Human Rights" - the winner of international film awards. It explains what human rights are and shows their dramatic history and development from the earliest times to the present. The film was greeted with applause. Ruslan Khusainov also shared his experience in implementing social outreach and training programs in practice, showing how major social city and all-Russian projects can be organized by volunteer forces.

As the guests of the round table noted, they had a lot of ideas and inspiration for carrying out activities on the topic of human rights and the rights of the child. And this will be successfully realized, as each participant received a set of materials "Youth for Human Rights", which can be used both in classrooms and in extra-curricular activities.

The goal of the international movement "Youth for Human Rights" is to educate people in the field of human rights to create an atmosphere of friendliness, respect and tolerance. It is worth noting that thanks to the St. Petersburg activists of the movement over the past year, more than 1500 schoolchildren and 450,000 townspeople have learned about their rights and responsibilities at meetings in schools and street actions.
