Styrofoam

This material is also an excellent answer to the question of how to insulate the wooden ceiling in the house. It is a light environmentally friendly board. Although they are manufactured using a slightly different technology, it looks very much like a well-known foam plastic. From the latter, they differ in that they practically do not crumble and store heat much better. Serves expanded polystyrene much longer than polystyrene. Unlike mineral wool of moisture, this material is not at all afraid. Its main advantage over the basalt insulator is a smaller thickness with the same heat-saving properties.

To its disadvantages can be attributed only a fairly high cost and flammability. In addition, it is strictly not recommended to use this material in the event that the house has rodents. Mice just love to make in the foam materials the courses and burrows.

Expanded clay

When the ceiling is insulated from the attic side, this material is laid as follows:

  • In the building under construction on the beams from below, the actual ceiling of the edging board is packed. If the house is old and the floors in the attic are already there, they should be mounted on a cellular frame.
  • Between the beams a vapor barrier is laid. It is possible to use either polyethylene or a foil material. The latter option is more expensive, but performs its function much better. In addition, the foil is able to reflect heat back into the room. Therefore, such materials for everything else are also able to additionally preserve heat. On existing floors of the attic in old houses, the vapor barrier is laid before the installation of the frame under the slabs.
  • The next step is to install the mineral wool itself. They put her in panic. That is, the distance between the beams should be slightly less than the width of the plates. In order for it to be convenient to walk on the floor, it is worthwhile to lay an attic with strips of plywood.

  • Then the vapor barrier film is stretched onto the frame . It is necessary to nail it with slats three centimeters thick. In this way, the ventilation layer will be additionally arranged.
  • At the next stage, the ceiling is usually covered with plywood and pasted with a ceiling tile.

Installation of expanded polystyrene

Now let's figure out how to insulate the ceiling in a wooden house using one more modern material. Usually styrofoam is laid in the attic in the same way as mineral wool - between the beams or in the crate. However, it is quite possible to mount it and directly onto the floors of the attic, if they are available, that is, without the installation of a frame. In this case, the substrate must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and leveled. Then the work is done like this:

  • Check whether the floorboards have rotted and not departed.
  • Lay a layer of vapor barrier. Fastening is made on staplers.
  • From the far corner of the door proceed to the laying of plates of expanded polystyrene. In doing so, ensure that the joints do not converge with the cross. That is, they carry out the packing in an uncontrolled manner.
  • The joints between the plates are sealed with a mounting foam and additionally glued with scotch tape.
  • Since the slabs - the material is rather fragile, on top of them either fill the board, or fill the cement screed in 3-4 cm. In the first case, before stacking the polystyrene on the floors it will be necessary to fill a few logs.

Use of expanded polystyrene from the inside

Thermal insulation of a wooden ceiling in a private house in this case is made as follows:

  • The ceiling is thoroughly cleaned of dirt, old plaster (if any), etc.
  • Then it should be primed.
  • Further on the ceiling - with the use of glue for foam plastic - polystyrene plates are glued. In this case, the material should also be additionally fixed with "fungi".
  • Above the plates a reinforcing mesh is glued.
  • Then the ceiling is plastered.

Of course, you can mount polystyrene foam and just like mineral wool, that is, in the crate. In this case, the ceiling at the final stage is covered with plywood, lining or edged board.

We warm the ceiling in a wooden house with expanded clay

In this case, the space between the beams of the floor is preliminarily covered with a roofing material. You can also use a very thick polyethylene film. The waterproofing material must also cover the beams themselves. The joints on the roofing material are glued with bituminous mastic, on the film - with adhesive tape. On the perimeter of the attic, the waterproofing material should be raised to the height of the future backfill layer.

Next is the actual insulation of the ceiling with expanded clay. Sometimes pre-ruberoid is smeared with clay mortar. The thickness of the layer of expanded clay is usually 12-16 cm. It is desirable to use a material having different fractions of granules. In this case, the insulating layer will be more dense and even. Sometimes, to strengthen the thermal insulation effect, a crumbled foam is added to the claydite.

On top of the thermal insulator is covered with a waterproofing film. Next, a concrete screed thickness of 4-5 cm is arranged. After 20 days after pouring it is possible to start finishing the floor.

Heat insulation with sawdust

For such material, cement is usually used as a binder. In order to prevent the appearance of rodents, a little lime can also be added to the sawdust. Rotting is prevented by the use of borax.

As in the case of claydite insulation, the attic floors in this case are first covered with a roofing material or a polyethylene film. You can also use sheet parchment.

The following requirements are imposed on the sawdust:

  • They must be aged for at least a year.
  • The material must be dry.
  • Do not insulate the ceiling with sawdust, decayed or infected insects.
  • The middle-grain sawdust is the best.

After the floors of the attic are prepared and waterproofed, proceed in fact to prepare the most warming solution. To do this, for ten buckets of sawdust take one bucket of cement and a half-bucket of lime. In addition, a glass of borax is diluted in a bucket of water and this solution is sprayed from the watering can over the mixture. The amount of water depends on the moisture level of the sawdust. Usually it is necessary to add 5-10 liters.

Chimney before laying the heater of this type must necessarily be laid with fireproof material. The wiring in the attic in this case is stretched in special metal pipes. Tightening over the sawdust warmer is not necessary. The frozen mixture itself will be strong enough.
