Antarctic cisus: withdrawal and possible difficulties

Some flowers have forever become favorites of domestic plant growers. The reasons for the emergence of a special love could be absolutely different: beautiful flowering, bright or unusual outlines of foliage, ease of maintenance, undemanding lighting - or, conversely, capriciousness in care, laborious work and high demands for the organization of residence. Everyone has their own reasons for choosing this or that flower! But almost all fans of home gardening liked the house plants cissus. And the reasons for such a mass preference are very diverse.

What is attractive cissus

First of all, it does not need an abundance of light. Agree, a real connoisseur of plants will always find a sunny window sill, but not enough pets to develop dark corners. Not all species are so indistinct, but absolutely everyone agrees on dim illumination.

The next advantage: you will never find ugly cissus. The photos clearly illustrate the decorativeness and attractiveness of all varieties.

Another plus: plants are very viable. They will not wither away if you forget about their existence for a week.

What is more valuable cissus - care for it is absolutely not complicated and does not require special skills, the device of greenhouses or the installation of moisturizers, constant temperature control and other hassles that some plants are so fond of.

Cissus is just a champion in the speed of regrowth and splendor of his green mane. That's why it is so attractive for vertical landscaping. An additional bonus is the small size of the pot, in which a sort of luxury has grown.

And finally - the flower actively absorbs poisonous and unwanted evaporation, which is invariably formed in any living room.

Species of the plant

Most often in the apartments there is an Antarctic cissus, called in common parlance also room (or New Zealand) grapes, and sometimes "liana kangaroos". The second most popular is the cisus rhomboid, which has the second name "birch" for the bizarre shape of the leaves. A bit less often, but the cissus comes in colorful, attracting floriders with variegated foliage. The remaining subspecies of cissus (Bayneza, tetrahedral, Jutta, cactus) in domestic plant cultivation somehow did not take root.

Basics of care

Since most often in our homes grown is the Antarctic cissus, we will give him maximum attention. Despite the undemanding lighting, it is not worthwhile to hang it in a dark corner at the end of a very long room - sooner or later the plant will not be able to survive. If the room is small, then the wall away from the window will suit it.

Special methods to regulate the temperature in the room where the Antarctic cissus is not needed: it is quite suitable standard in the range of 18-25 degrees, and in winter it is completely supported by conventional radiators. In addition, in winter rest the plant does not need, so it is not required to clean it in the cool for these months.

Since the flowers cissus - with a foliated cover, not succulents, not cacti and not conifers, in the heat they require more water - it voluminously evaporates from the leaf blades. However, with excess moisture, the liana rot roots, so it is worth taking care of drainage in advance and watering less, but more often.

Since cissus Antarctic is liana, its branches need to cling to something as they grow, otherwise they may break or stop growing. The simplest way out will be a plastic flat lattice, attached under the pot to the wall - the antennae is enough to cling to and support the branches.

During an active growth every two weeks, the pet should be fed with a complex fertilizer. Naturally, in the winter such fertilizing stops.

Adjust humidity

Due to the abundance of foliage, the Antarctic cissus is in great need of spraying. However, the density and length of the rapidly growing mane makes it difficult: it is unlikely that you will get to reach all the leaves. In addition, the stains on the wallpaper, formed by the flow of water, you definitely will not be pleased. So in dry hot weather, the Antarctic cissus is better to be taken to the bathroom once a week and to give him a warm shower. All the leaves are washed, the dried leaves will fall off, and you can return the flower to the wall when the water stops dripping from it.

Formation

For a better appearance, the Antarctic cissus will have to be pruned periodically. First, so you will achieve a more magnificent growth of stems. Secondly, if you want, you can grow a shrub of a certain shape - for example, stop growing branches towards the figurine or TV screen. Third, the "old" stems are woody, they lose their leaves and become unpleasantly bare. Circumcision of such "mouse tails" accelerates the development of new fresh shoots.

What problems can there be?

Fortunately, the Antarctic cissus is sick and pests are extremely rare. If the invasion of the whitefly, aphid or scabies happened, it is easily eliminated by the appropriate drugs and does not require any additional actions. All other possible problems arise only as a result of errors in the content. So, if the watering is excessive or the soil is too dense, the flower begins to fade. The solution is simple: water is set aside, the earth is changed to a lighter one. You can simply add vermiculite or perlite to the soil mix of the previous composition - this will increase the air permeability, and the plant will cease to choke.

Began to fly leaves - or a draft, or the temperature changes sharply. Eliminated the cause (for example, moved the pot away from the balcony or air conditioner) - cured the flower.

Fingers and brown tips of leaves - a lack of moisture in the air, it is worth to increase the frequency of shower procedures. If the leaves are browned all over the area and covered with mold, then you have over-moistened the plant, and have done it more than once. It may well be necessary to replace the top layer with fresh soil, and certainly it is necessary to revise the irrigation schedule and their rate.

If you do not make mistakes, your cissus (photo - in the article) will please you for a long time.
