Gulnara Islamovna Karimova: biography, personal life, political career

In the last decade almost all the countries of Central Asia are under the close supervision of the European public. States, especially those that are located in close proximity to Afghanistan, attract attention because they are a potential hotbed of extremist organizations. The need to strictly protect their borders and prevent any possibility of the emergence of radical attitudes leads to the establishment of a rigid despotic political regime in such countries. In such situations, almost all the main vectors for the further development of the state are decided by the president, which is why there is always an increased interest in the heads of such countries, as well as members of their families and their approximate circle of contacts.

Members of the most influential family in the country

One of such Asian countries is Uzbekistan. Gulnara Karimova has become a woman who in many countries associates with the immediate power in this country, since she is not just a member of the ruling family. She is the eldest daughter and the main heiress of the president.

For a long time, Gulnara Islamovna Karimova was viewed by the press and political analysts as the most likely successor to the presidential post after her father. But in 2013 everything changed dramatically. A year before, in 2012, Swedish television reported that the eldest daughter of the president of Uzbekistan and her closest associates were involved in corrupt schemes.

The public attitude towards Gulnara changed dramatically after that. Together with her daughter she was taken under house arrest. Many people whom she trusted and who were in her closest circle were arrested, and some of them until today are among the missing.

Gulnara's father, Islam Karimov, publicly denied his daughter, does not enter into any negotiations with her and avoids personal meetings in every possible way. It is unlikely that the president of Uzbekistan could assume such a turn of events in the distant 1972, when their long-awaited first child was born with his wife.

Youth and education

The eldest daughter of Karimov, Gulnara, was born on July 8 in the Uzbek city of Fergana. All this childhood, this future secular lioness, politician and diplomat held in Tashkent. Before becoming president of the country, her father, since 1980, has successfully advanced up the political career ladder. He held high posts in the Council of Ministers of the then Uzbek SSR. Later Islam Karimov became the first secretary in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan.

Gulnara's mother, Tatyana Karimova, was also always considered an example of a highly educated person. She was an economist by profession and worked as a research assistant for a long time in the staff of the ANU Institute of Economics. Gulnara Karimova today in many interviews recalls that in their family there has always been a cult of learning and education. Studying the biography of this intelligent, versatile and educated woman, there is no reason to doubt this.

Live and learn

Before 1988, Gulnara Islamovna Karimova studied at the Tashkent Mathematical Academy. The following year, after her graduation, the girl entered the Tashkent State Institute. According to one of the available sources, she studied at the sociology faculty. But there is also broad access to information that says that Gulnara received her first higher education in the indicated educational institution at the Faculty of Philosophy and Economics.

Later, she studied at the NUU at the Faculty of International Economics. After graduating from Tashkent State University in 1994, Karimova received a bachelor's degree in international relations. In September, Gulnara continues her studies, enrolling in the Master's program of the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which she successfully graduates in 2 years, in 1996.

In 1998, this young woman begins her studies at Harvard, enrolling in a school of natural and humanities. After her graduation, she became Master of Arts in regional studies. In parallel with her studies at the art school, Gulnara Islamovna Karimova studied at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. In 2001, she successfully graduated from this educational institution, receiving a doctorate in political science.

In 2003, the president's daughter, who was never limited in any connections, possibilities, or material resources, decides to learn a new field and goes to study at the Tashkent University of Information Technology. Three years later she successfully graduated and received a bachelor's degree in modern telecommunications. In 2009, Karimova became a professor in economics and diplomacy.

In several of her interviews, Gulnara said that she always felt herself a creative person, but she chose economic professions, because in 80-90s such hobbies as design seemed completely frivolous. Despite this stereotype and her constant employment, Gulnara Islamovna Karimova found time for her hobbies, in 1992 in New York at the Institute of Fashion Technologies, she passed a course in "Design of jewelry".

Early labor experience of Gulnara

In the official biography of this bright woman it is said that, while still a student, in 1987, she began to work in the office of the General Directorate of Statistics of the country. Also as a student, in 1994, Gulnara worked as a trainee teacher at the Department of Political Science. A year later, in 1995, the president's daughter began to prepare analytical reports that were intended for the presidential office and the Security Council. She performed similar assignments, working in the management of political analysis and forecasting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Rapid political career

The rapid rise of Karimova's career began in June 1996, after she took up the post of ministerial adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After 2 years, she was appointed to the post of adviser at the representation of Uzbekistan in the UN. The following positions at that time are still very young girls are really impressive:

  1. In 2003 she was sent to work in the Uzbek Embassy in Russia. There she holds the post of an adviser-messenger.
  2. In 2005, she returned to Uzbekistan and began to work again in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this time occupying the post of adviser to the new minister, Eliera Ganieva.
  3. Since the beginning of the winter of 2008, Gulnara Islamovna Karimova became deputy (on humanitarian and cultural cooperation) of Vladimir Norov, the next foreign minister.
  4. In September 2008, the president's daughter is appointed to the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN.
  5. In 2010 she was appointed to the same post of ambassador and representative of Uzbekistan to the Embassy of Spain.

At first glance it may seem that an ordinary person who builds such a brilliant political career does not have time for his own hobbies and hobbies. But this assumption has nothing to do with Gulnara.

History related to the first husband

The first official elected to Karimova was Mansur Maksudi, an American businessman of Uzbek descent. They signed in 1992. After this, Mansur's affairs quickly went up. He became the principal shareholder of Coca-Cola's local branch. The press periodically wrote that Maksudi had power over the most profitable spheres of the Uzbek economy (cotton, oil products, sugar).

The couple broke up scandalously after almost 10 years of living together. The divorce was accompanied by trials, with the help of which the former spouse tried to take the children away from Karimova, but this attempt failed. But Gulnara more than took revenge on her husband - after the divorce his business quickly went into decline. He lost all his property in Uzbekistan and was accused of tax evasion.

Civilized Marriage

Rustam Madumarov became the second civil husband of Gulnara, a singer who does not have a very pleasant reputation for gigolo. Just as in the case of Maksudi, after the start of relations with Gulnara, Madumarov's business began to blossom sharply. He became the owner of a sound recording studio, controlled all major shopping centers and print shops. After once Rustam wanted to leave from Karimova and expressed dissatisfaction with his civic wife, a threat to repeat the fate of Maksudi was hanging over him. His business came under severe pressure from government agencies, and after a moment's reflection, he returned to Gulnar.

Creative career and career of the singer

The daughter of Islam Karimov often declared that she always felt herself a creative person, and, starting from the 2000s, she began to realize her dream of becoming a singer (she took herself the creative pseudonym GooGoosha - Gugusha). Gulnara Karimova's songs and clips began to appear around the clock on Uzbek television. People close to her entourage included such TV channels and radio stations as TV Markaz, A'lo FM, Forum TV, Zamin FM, NTT, SoftS, and Terra FM. It was they who broadcast Gulnara's work without interruption.

Gugusha began to perform her long-standing childhood dreams related to the stage: she shot the video together with the legendary Gerard Depardieu and sang a duet with such stars as Enrique Iglesias and Montserrat Caballe.

It is clear that in order to engage in such creative work and produce your songs, you need a lot of money. And they were with Gulnara, since in Uzbekistan this woman oversaw all the most profitable industries.

The charge of monopoly

At one time, Karimova was educated in the field of information technology, and she was well versed in all the intricacies of mobile operators. At some point, Gulnara Karimova (whose husband, Rustam Madumarov, also took part in many multimillion dollar scams) became the owner of Uzdunorbit, the first mobile operator in Uzbekistan. After several years, she successfully sold it for a considerable amount of the company MTS. But in 2012, taking advantage of her power, she illegally tries to regain the company, first depriving MTS of the license, and then fined $ 600 million.

Further Gulnara liked the American operator called SkyTel, whose law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan selected frequencies. In the same year (2012), another scandal emerges - information that Telia Sonera, a Swedish mobile operator, was forced to pay Karimova a bribe of $ 300 million in order to be allowed to enter the mobile technology market of Uzbekistan becomes public information. Slightly less than the cost of the well-known company Vimpelcom. For permission to enter the Uzbek market, she paid Gulnara Karimova only $ 150 million.

There is also unofficial information that all the time the whole Tashkent public catering paid Gulnare informal shares of his profits.

Participation in corruption and loud arrest

The first serious problems for the presidential daughter began in 2010. The Swiss company Zeromax, with whom, thanks to the direct protege of Karimova, contracts were signed for the construction of the Forum Palace in Tashkent, she announced her ruin. The reason for the collapse was the theft of $ 1 billion. A few years later, another scandal emerges: a well-known Swedish mobile operator accused Gulnara's assistant of money laundering. Sweden began serious proceedings against Karimova, and all of its offshore accounts were frozen.

Nobody knows at what price Islam Karimov was given the decision to issue an order to arrest his own daughter, but this fact was accomplished. The Internet circled a photo and video, which shows how Gulnara Karimova was taken by law enforcement agencies for house arrest. Almost two years, while an investigation is underway about the corruption ties of Uzbekistan's most brilliant woman, she, along with her daughter, is in a home confinement. At the same time, Karimov completely interrupted communication both with his daughter and with her children.

Children of Gulnara Karimova

While still in official marriage, Gulnara became the mother of two children - a daughter named Iman and the son of Islam. After Karimova broke up with her husband and left New Jersey for her homeland, taking her children with them, their father Mansur tried to get them back through the court and even accused Gulnar of kidnapping. But these attempts did not lead to anything, and the children stayed to live with their mother.

After the scandalous arrest, Iman found herself in domestic confinement with her mother, and Islam conducts all sorts of information struggles: he speaks on various TV channels, gives constant interviews, in which he says that someone specially sets up President Karimov against his own daughter. According to his son, his mother was only a victim of intricate intrigues and has nothing to do with corruption schemes.

Lola is the second daughter of the president

Great interest in the world community was caused by an interview given by BBC to Karolyov's second daughter, Lola. She very rarely happens in Uzbekistan, she lives with her husband Timur Tillyaev in Switzerland.

Lola Islamovna says that, unlike her sister, she does not have any political ambitions, and considers her family to be the main thing in her life (they had three children with her spouse). Asked to comment on the situation with Gulnara, Lola stated that she does not have a position as such, since she has not spoken with her sister for more than 12 years.
