Guinea fowl at home - unpretentious biological weapon in the fight against the Colorado beetle

Guinea fowl is an animal of agricultural purpose. If you compare it to another poultry, it has a number of characteristics. This species adapts well to different climatic conditions. He is very resistant to all sorts of infections and diseases. The guinea fowl in the home is uncomfortable, it does not bring any special difficulties in feeding.
This bird is able to eat a few hundred insects a day. She does not neglect the Colorado beetle. Therefore, it can be safely used in its dacha section as a biological weapon in the fight against this type of pest. The guinea fowl at home, as it was once in the natural environment, is a herd bird. Due to this, they can easily be distilled from one site to another, for example, after harvesting.

Not only the color of guinea fowls depends on the breed. The guinea fowls of gray color have a larger mass (by 7%), compared with bluish individuals. The weight of eggs is more by 3%. But the fecundity of birds with bluish-colored plumage is higher by 14%. White guinea fowl at home can demolish more eggs than its relatives of another color, but the weight of the carcass is lower. The gray guinea fowl is preferable, the breeding is most advantageous. The intensity of growth of chicks considerably exceeds the parameters of white and blue breeds.

However, these birds are not very common in our country. Although guinea fowls are able to build up a mass of up to two kilograms, their meat is very tender and not very fatty, it resembles a game to taste. The breeding of guinea fowls is better to begin with the pearl or blue color of the feathers.

Males can weigh up to one and a half kilograms. The females are somewhat larger and reach two kilograms. In the year the birds carry up to 150 eggs. The mass of each varies from 40 to 46 grams. Egg is brown, sometimes spotted. The shape somewhat resembles a pear. The presence of a small number of pores in the shell makes it possible to store up to 90 days at a temperature of up to 18 degrees. Guinea fowl at home starts oviposition from April and is carried inclusively until October. Daily laying of eggs occurs in warmer months.

Guinea fowl at home prefer to carry eggs in a large nest, on the ground, near a fence in the field, in tall grass. When the female lays eggs, the male next guards, quietly chirping.

In general, these birds are very talkative. They make sounds that sound like a squeak. If they are worried about something, they shout so much that there is a ringing in their ears. Guinea fowls can fly, but for some reason they are lazy. Males can be quite aggressive.

Guinea fowl should be let out on the street only at a temperature of at least minus five. With the onset of cold weather, it is necessary to transfer it to a pre-insulated poultry house.

As a rule, omnivorous and unpretentious, in summer these birds are able to provide themselves with food: they have enough insects, only in the evening they can peck from the feeding bowl. In winter, the best meal is a mixture of boiled root vegetables and mixed fodder. It is recommended to add vitamin premixes to food. Also birds like whole grains, cabbage, beets. Water should always be fresh and clean.
