Evolution of dentistry, or How are caries treated in the era of nanotechnology?

Dental problems exist as much as there is a person. At first, the teeth were damaged due to insufficient processing of food, poor oral hygiene and lack of treatment. Now the incisors and the root are sick because of the huge choice of food, mostly over-processed and sweet, a violation of all possible principles of proper nutrition and lifestyle. But the level of development of modern dentistry makes it easy to answer the question: "How are caries treated?", To identify it at the earliest stage and cure it in a sparing way for one trip to the doctor.

Caries or holes in the teeth

Caries is a pathological process of damaging dental tissues, leading to the formation of carious cavities. During this process, the hard tooth tissues are demineralized and softened. Regardless of any of the 4 stages of the disease, destruction takes place, but in the first stage the disease is expressed only in poorly noticeable damage to the enamel, without any pain. The first stage proceeds almost imperceptibly for a person. Therefore, at this stage, the answer to the question of how caries are treated is simple - with the help of specially selected hygiene products (toothpaste, brush, etc.).

The remaining stages proceed with increasing pain sensitivity to various stimuli: chemical (acidic, sweet) temperature (cold, hot) and mechanical (solid food). In this case, infectious cavities of different sizes and degrees of damage appear.

Treatment

In general, the methods of caries treatment include the removal of damaged areas with further filling of the defective area with a durable fill material. The damaged area is closed with a special lining or veneer.

Briefly about seals

Filling materials are divided into cements of various compositions, plastics, composites and amalgams. Without a filling, it is impossible to cope with the problem of how to treat tooth decay. Cement, although very cheap material, but it has a limited number of colors, it badly "sticks together" to the surface of the tooth, and is fragile enough. Plastics and composites are quickly erased and change their shade. Amalgams, in spite of their exceptional strength and durability, have an unpleasant metallic color and smack.

Modern photopolymer composites are free from the drawbacks of all the materials described above and have a huge number of advantages. Polymers perfectly connect, glue together with the tooth surface, they are very strong, their shade is stable for many decades, they are resistant to erasure. In addition, a variety of colors and shades of this material make it possible to select the ideal match with the patient's natural smile. The polymer practically recreates the removed portion of the tooth. Thus, it is possible to restore either a part or create an almost whole tooth. The appearance of such a chisel or root will not differ from the original and natural. But other materials are still used in dentistry. So, for example, raznomordnye cements are used in children's practice, because they have low toxicity, and in the adult - as a basis for photopolymer fillings or for minor repairs. Plastics - to eliminate small cavitary problems, to install temporary seals or as auxiliary materials.

But despite the huge selection of materials for dental treatment, none of them will replace natural teeth. Only they are the ideal solution, created by nature for man. And no treatment for caries is a panacea for this misfortune. Then how are caries treated by wise people? Only the prevention of inflammatory infectious processes in the mouth is the simplest, most effective and right decision.

Prevention as the most powerful weapon against disease

Preventive maintenance of caries includes exclusion of the factors provoking this disease, and increase of resistance of tissues to harmful influences. Perhaps, it is optimal to start care and prevention during the intrauterine development of the child and not to end until the very old age. Despite the simplicity of the events held, their strength and effectiveness are enormous.

Rational diet, full and balanced food, sanitary and hygienic rules, healthy lifestyle - this is the best answer to the dumb and painful "how are caries treated?". This is an ideal weapon in the fight against most ailments, the same applies to dental diseases. Avoiding a variety of caries provoking factors (sweet and soft foods, constant disruption of the natural alkaline environment in the oral cavity, intake of too hot and cold food, the use of canines as a bottle opener and a snapper, etc.) will make it possible to turn hikes to the dentist from medical to information-prophylactic.
