Today "Bryansk Automobile Plant" is the only Russian company producing wheeled tractors and chassis that combine enviable cross-country ability and high carrying capacity. The history of the enterprise began in 1958, when a number of resolutions of the Council of Ministers of the USSR from the Bezhitsa Steel Plant singled out a single corps for organizing the production of tractors, vehicles, aggregates and spare parts. Very quickly created on the basis of allocated areas of the BAZ has developed into a strong independent structure.

Over the long decades, workers have seen many things: the formation of a large enterprise step by step in the 1960s, the shock work on a clock-like production in the 1970s and the 1980s, and the almost complete halt in output with the collapse of the USSR, and a phased revival that Occurs before our very eyes. Today, the products of the BAZ are not only powerful tractors, but also truck cranes, special equipment for oilmen, gas workers, geologists, repair units, cementing complexes, in the long term - fire trucks. After forgetting in the "dashing" 90's "Bryansk Automobile Plant" again spread its wings. Only for the period from 2002 to 2007 the company manufactured and supplied 582 automobile chassis of various modifications and for different purposes to the subcontractors:

• For the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation - 234 pcs.,
• For crane building - 276 pcs .;
• Oil and gas complex - 75 pcs.

In the CJSC "BAZ" currently employs more than 2000 people.

Historical reference

The impetus for the creation of a new machine-building plant was an acute shortage in the postwar country of tractors. On December 1, 1952, the Council of Ministers decided (document No. 5030-1961) to organize the production of industrial heavy tractors at the facilities of the Bezhetsk Steel Mill.

During this period, the demand for vehicles increased sharply in the country. Promptly adopted a number of government resolutions on the development of domestic production of special purpose vehicles, the platform for which was created in 1958, "Bryansk Automobile Plant." The photos of those years testify to the large-scale construction of new buildings erected in a short time. At the same time, housing was built for workers, life was organized, infrastructure was developed.

In the same 1958, the Bryansk Automobile Plant produced 53 tractors of the T-140 class of 15 tons. In 1959, the assembly of armored personnel carriers BTR-152 and a large floating vehicle ZIL-485 was organized.

The beginning of a long way

Over the next 2.5 years, 819 T-140 tractors were manufactured. For the installation of bulldozer and scraper equipment, the D-804 pipelayer construction has been designed. About 400 armored personnel carriers BTR-152V1 and BAP ZIL-485 have been manufactured. By the beginning of 1961, "Bryansk Automobile Plant" became the second home for 4629 workers.

In 1965, the BAZ switched to the production of more powerful tractors T-180 with a 180-horsepower engine of its own production. The output of tractors in 1965 was brought up to 1000 pcs. Per year, pipelayers - up to 70 pcs. The country was in dire need of agricultural machinery. The demand for row cultivators has increased. At the initiative of the director of the plant P. Ya. Petrakov began the production of cultivators KP-4M, they produced 4386 pieces. In 1964, 10 044 cultivators were manufactured.

For the period from 1964 to 1965, the plant started serial production of heavy-duty, high-road chassis ZIL-135LM and ZIL-135K and two engines of 180 liters. from. For the first time in the practice of domestic automotive industry, this machine used components (cab, motor section, battery container and others) made of plastic materials. And this is only a brief fragment of the great history of the Bryansk Automobile Plant.

The protracted peak

With the collapse of the USSR, the military products of the enterprise turned out to be unnecessary. "Bryansk Automobile Plant" actually got up. In the mid-nineties, the well-known Treaty on the Elimination of the Missile Defense Forces, including the Oka and Luna missiles, was signed, under which the BAZ released the chassis. The Ministry of Defense stopped giving orders, and conversion products were poorly developed. The enterprise was first introduced arbitration, and then the bankruptcy administration.

Titanic efforts of indifferent employees of the plant managed to prove the necessity of preserving and further production of tractors and chassis of increased cross-country ability. From old models it was decided to refuse. The rate is made for the new generation of "Voshina-1", which meets the modern requirements. A huge credit for this is the plant's general director, VI Gross.

Recent history

In 2001, the reorganized OOO Bryansk Automobile Plant became a partner of the Independent Association of Machine Builders (NAMA). Its ties and cooperation with the Ivanovo car crane plant are strengthened. As a result, the production is mastered and serial production of crane chassis is being set up. In parallel, the Baz fulfills the orders of the Ministry of Defense and the oil and gas complex.

Currently, the work is being carried out to expand the scope of application of the Voshina-1 family and the new Voshina-2 family under development in the prospective weapons systems and armament complexes: Triumfator-M and Pechora-2M missiles, tactical missile system Iskander ", coastal missile systems. The possibility of using the BAZ chassis for the installation of various equipment for airfield maintenance equipment, fire trucks and tank trucks with tanks of large volume and other equipment is under consideration.
