Before you buy yourself this cute animal, you should take care of his place of residence in your apartment. A cage for a chinchilla can not be small, it should be quite spacious. Not suitable for keeping animals smaller than 80x80x60 cm. These animals are quite large, so the most suitable for living one animal is a cage for chinchillas measuring 90x90x60 cm. Metal cells with a sliding pallet are very convenient, because during cleaning, they are not damaged by treatment with disinfectant solutions and boiling water. Such a cage for a chinchilla has a high plastic rim that prevents feed, hay and sawdust from getting into the cell. Chinchillas are very active animals, so keeping them in a cage without bows provides daily cleaning of the area around the cage. The only disadvantage of a metal cage is a rather high cost.

An ideal variant of the maintenance of these animals is a special multi-tiered, high cage for chinchillas, equipped with shelves, steps, tunnels, gangways, hammocks and a comfortable house in which they can hide. The lower part of this cell is covered with glass, so that food, sawdust, hay and sand do not pour out of the cage. In such a cell, there are hanging feeders and drinking bowls that prevent contamination of food and water by debris and animal excrement. In the corner there is a manger in which they put hay. At the bottom of this house is filled with sawdust. You can not use for this purpose sawdust of coniferous trees, containing tar and having a sharp odor.

If you put a tray with a special filler in a corner for a small chinchill, it gradually learns to cope with its need for a tray, which will greatly facilitate the care of the animal. The cell for chinchilla should have a specially allocated place, where twigs, wooden sticks, mineral stones for grinding teeth are located. Otherwise, toothy pets will do this procedure with your furniture when you let them walk around the apartment.

There must be a place for a bath in the cage. These animals need a bath in the sand. Thus, they clean their chic fur coat, so every day for a couple of hours in a cage they put a special container with volcanic sand.

To keep a family of chinchillas, the cage is more suitable, and an enclosure that is divided into several boxes for female children, which are connected to each other by a tunnel for the male. In each of the boxes are placed a separate drinking bowl, a feeder and a house.

People who have a clue about a hammer, nails and wood can make cages for chinchillas by their own hands. In the manufacture of cells should observe the following rules:

- all connections must be without cracks;

- Cell walls (at least 3 of them) should be made of metal mesh (so it will be well ventilated).

- the mesh should be made of stainless steel with a thickness of at least 2 mm.
