An immigrant is a person who migrates from one territory to another

An immigrant is a person who migrates from one or another territory with a change of permanent residence for a long term or forever. From the Latin language, the word "immigrant" (migrantis) is translated as a "resettling person" (or a group of persons). Migrants are people who have changed their place of residence, or those who regularly migrate. For example, a citizen goes to work in another city.

Types of migration

Immigrant is a concept that can be interpreted in another way. In a broad sense, a migrant is considered to be anyone who periodically travels to other localities or areas for business, tourist or recreational purposes. Or are these people who regularly, every day (every week) shuttle travel between settlements. Or for different periods (more than a month) they move to another city on a permanent or temporary basis. If we analyze this concept in a narrow sense, then the immigrant is a migrant to another place.

As already noted, migration of the population basically involves a change of place of residence. In this sense, it can be temporary or irretrievable. That is, the move can be carried out forever or for a long, but limited time. In addition, migration can be external and internal. External is immigration / emigration from the country. Internal refers to the movement of the population from the village to the city or inter-district resettlement.

Rules for the departure of migrants

When leaving the settlement, that is, the former place of residence, the migrant must withdraw from registration and register on arrival at his new place of residence in the passport office. For departure it is necessary to fill out the departure sheet, upon arrival - arrival. According to these sheets, statistical agencies keep a record of the country's data on the structure and number of migratory flows.

Immigrants in Russia

Russia occupies a leading place in the world in receiving migrants from different countries. Many immigrants come from the states of the former USSR, the number of representatives of the countries of Asia, far abroad increases. If we consider the issue from the point of view of sociology, we can say that an immigrant is a person who realizes himself as a holistic subject of behavior in a new place of residence and has a feeling of group solidarity.

Most of the migrants are not registered at their place of residence, that is, they are in Russia illegally. Illegal immigrants are people who illegally entered the territory of the country, with violation of the current order. Also illegals are stateless persons and those who enter on forged documents. Or those who exceed the allowed period of stay in the country.

Illegal stay

An illegal stay is understood as not being properly registered, according to the procedure in force in the Russian Federation, the presence on its territory of foreign citizens and persons who do not have citizenship. It does not matter whether legally or not they entered the country. Illegally entering are those people who have violated the rules of entry into the Russian Federation, established by the current legislation.

The category of "illegally staying" also includes foreigners from the Baltic countries, foreign countries and citizens of the CIS, even if the border crossing was carried out legally. Both categories (illegally entering and already staying) overlap each other only partially, since illegally entered citizens can later legalize their stay in Russia, leave or deport them. But those citizens who illegally reside in the country include those who entered legally, but later lost their legal status.
