A monologue is a way of expressing one's own thoughts

A monologue is a statement of one person, presented either verbally or in writing. At the same time active speech is designed for passive perception of who it is intended for. The addressee can learn the essence of the monologue in direct or indirect communication. When the contact between the addressee and the author of the message is delayed, there should be an intermediary, technical devices, a letter, a seal usually appear in his role.

Comparison of monologue and dialogue

If the dialogue is an exchange of remarks between two or more interlocutors, then the monologue is a detailed and informative speech, the author of which should take care of its informativeness. During the dialogue, the interlocutors constantly change roles of the listener and the speaker, each statement provokes a corresponding reaction. Support gestures, gestures, intonation, facial expressions. In the monologue of all this there is, the addressee does not have the opportunity to ask about something from the author or clarify the details.

Types of monologue

An expanded statement is usually a significant amount of text. It is organized in a formal and semantic sense and is a single whole. For all functional speech styles, a monologue is acceptable, but in each of them it manifests itself in the form of different monologic genres. In scientific style it can be a review, an article or a monograph. In the colloquial is distributed a letter and a story, in the journalistic - an essay, a note, a review, correspondence. In an official-business style, a monologue is a certificate, law, report or decree.

The author of a detailed statement always has to address someone's message, he can not speak to himself. The addressee can be personal or mass, on this depends the construction of the text, its fullness and the features of perception. A monologue is always opposed to a dialogue, as a rule, artistic prose genres are built from their combination. Although the expanded speech refers to passive communication, it retains its communicative nature. Each monologue is dialogical, just the features of the dialogue are somewhat peculiar and pushed aside.

Types of monologue

All monologues are divided into several types, depending on the functional and semantic feature underlying the text. The most common are narration, description and reasoning. Narrative texts belong to the genre of the story and are the basis of novels and stories. They are characterized by a description of events in the dynamics. The characteristic of the monologue in this case includes exposure, string, development, culmination, denouement.

The description is a type of speech that contains an enumeration of the elements and attributes of an object, its external characteristic, a phenomenon in a statics, internal signs. This variety is similar to the narrative, but the verbs are used here not to develop an action, but to characterize an object. Reasoning is a kind of mental activity, the most common are explanations and syllogisms.

A monologue is a competent statement of one's own thoughts, observations, conclusions. He requires the author of a certain verbal preparedness, plan and purpose.
