Yellow palms and other signs of jaundice

The symptomatology of jaundice is expressed in coloring in yellow (hence, in fact, the name) of the skin and sclera. This is due to the excessive amount of such a substance as bilirubin. It accumulates in the blood. People who have jaundice often have yellow palms. In healthy people, this substance is excreted along with the contents of the digestive tract. Otherwise, the liver is not able to metabolize bilirubin, and it remains in the body.

What to do if the palms turned yellow?

When diagnosing jaundice, it should be remembered that it is necessary to identify the root cause of the disease, and not to treat the discoloration of the skin, so that the yellowed palms should not be hidden or try to disguise. And the reasons can be various: these are problems with the liver, spleen, pancreas, blockage of the bile canals.

The main symptoms, as mentioned above, are yellowing of the skin, staining the urine in a dark brown color, it can become similar to tea. The chair becomes uneven, white or extremely pale. At patients the fever begins, them chills chills, pains in the right part of a stomach from above can also appear. As a result of the disease, loss of appetite can also develop, a significant decrease in weight. For any of the listed signs, you should urgently contact your doctor.

Very often jaundice occurs in newborn babies, this is due to the fact that the baby's body is not yet working at full strength and some organs, such as the liver, are not able to completely recycle the substances entering the body. The kid has yellow palms. As a rule, the "jelly", as it is called in the maternity hospital, disappears in a few days, when the baby begins to adapt to the surrounding world. If the jaundice has not disappeared, it can lead to serious consequences, at least to anemia, and as a maximum - to serious lag in mental and physical condition.

Jaundice is divided into several types, depending on how the pathological process proceeds: superhepatic jaundice, subhepatic and hepatic. The first type occurs when the patient is diagnosed with a hereditary or acquired disease called hemolytic anemia. In this case, the decay of erythrocytes increases sharply. Subhepatic jaundice occurs when metabolism is impaired and bilirubin is moved between cells. It is usually diagnosed with such diseases as liver cirrhosis, Gilbert's syndrome and with various forms of hepatitis. Hepatic jaundice often occurs due to the defeat of the pancreatic head by cancer cells or because of cholelithiasis.

To minimize the risk of jaundice, you must follow certain recommendations. First, do not eat in institutions that do not comply with health and hygiene regulations. Secondly, when taking all kinds of medications or with intramuscular injections, it is extremely cautious to keep the dosage very strictly - the recommendations of the treating doctor. If, in the case of taking medications, minimal signs of jaundice, especially yellow palms, have been noticed, it is urgent to see a doctor for advice and changing medications.

During treatment of jaundice, there may be a decrease in yellowness of the skin and mucous membranes, but this does not mean that the treatment is over. Even if the yellow palms do not bother you, this is no reason to relax. It's just a period of improvement. When diagnosing jaundice, the doctor must necessarily perform a full diagnosis of the liver, up to its biochemistry, and also make a general and biochemical blood test. In the course of treatment, surgical intervention may be required, especially relevant if cancer cells are to blame for such a disease.
