Who Needs a Certificate?

Recently, in a popular newspaper, I read a letter from an agitated woman. She was perplexed watching her son's study in one public school with a good reputation. Her son is in grade 11. He and almost all of his classmates are engaged only in those subjects that they need for admission, and the rest of the disciplines do not excite them. Even a bad evaluation in the certificate does not bother anyone.

This letter made me think about the role of the certificate. I got the feeling that he only needs parents and relatives, but not the graduate himself. After all, when you receive only the points earned on the USE are taken into account.

Those who graduated from the Soviet school, remember that the rating score played a big role, so we had a motivation that makes us treat all subjects equally. And what happens now? How, for example, does the teacher of literature have an interest in the subject of a student who wants to enter a mathematical college? It is difficult, because at the lesson the teacher needs not only to present the material, but also to evaluate the student's answer.

All this situation leads to formalism, absenteeism of lessons, conflicts. I believe that there are two ways to solve the problem: either you need to enter a certification score and add it to the score earned on the USE, or leave in grade 11 only those items that are needed for admission.

At the first decision there is quite justified desire to receive good and excellent results in all subjects of a school course, in fact it is necessary to earn a high certification point. Motivation gives a certain meaning to the training, which is important for increasing the interest in the process of obtaining knowledge.

The second solution to this problem lies in the fact that it is advisable to leave four or three subjects for studying subjects in grade 11, for which exams will be taken in the chosen university. This is mathematics, the Russian language as compulsory subjects and two subjects of choice. Thus, an individual program is drawn up, which will require a large amount of time, but will bring tangible benefits. Firstly, when studying these subjects every day, the need for a tutor may fall away; Second, to reduce the number of absenteeism; Secondly, there is a growing interest in learning, which is absent from the pupils of the 11th grade, because they run around the tutors, and this is more important for them.

Of course, one can disagree with my arguments, but something must be done if we want to interest students in school and at school.
