Who is a stinking beetle and why does it smell so unpleasant?

In the world there are a lot of insects, each kind of which differs in something special. There was no exception to the stinking beetle, one name of which is able to say about its "outstanding" features. What kind of beetle is this and why does it smell unpleasant? Let's understand.

First of all, it must be said that in fact the bug is hidden under the guise of the beetle. And if only a few years ago people knew perfectly well about their bedbugs, today they are much more likely to face the consequences of the activity of these small insects themselves.

Who ever had a berry on which a stink beetle crawled? Impressions are certainly unforgettable!

Oddly enough, the stink of these creatures is called not only by popular rumor, but also by the learned brotherhood, since under this epithet lies the collective name of several bug species at once.

In a word, there are a lot of odorous pests, and they are found all over the world. So, the American stink beetle is the Asian bug bug (Halyomorpha halys). He is a real scourge of agriculture.

If we talk scientifically, then this family is called Real Shields. In Latin - Pentatomidae. These are the most advanced and evolutionarily developed bedbugs. Most species of the family feed on plant food, but there are many predators.

In any case, the defenders can be recognized from afar, since their bright warning coloring ahead of time signals a danger. In their colors, nature used red, yellow, blue and black colors, as well as many of their shades. The Italian striped bug is quite similar to the black and red mask of some African shaman.

In particular, Californian farmers this year suffered a real smelly invasion, literally bucking the pest on their fields.

Not very pleasant smell due to the mechanisms of protection of these insects. In their bodies there are special glands producing a corrosive liquid with a disgusting smell.

And the stink-bug not only frightens off possible enemies: the chemical reagent, penetrating through the cuticle of other insects, acts on them deadly. Thus, his "fragrance" is a means of preventive protection.

It is not surprising that predators eating stinky species are very few. The bug itself from its own chemical attack means there is no harm, since its cover is impervious to reagents, and the glands themselves are surrounded by dense tissues that do not allow their contents to contact other parts of the body.

By the way, the stink beetle smells already from the "infantile" age, since the glands function perfectly even in larvae. This gives them additional protection. It is so reliable that often the number of bugs can be reduced only by using strong chemical reagents.

By the way, their smell is not only a means of protection, but also communication. The fact that the smell of protective glands is mixed with the smells of pheromones, which the human nose can not catch.

Bedbugs also with their help find sexual partners, warn each other about the dangers and just mark the road.

As for our country, we have a widespread beetle stink (photo of which is in the article) called a harmful turtle. The Latin name is Eurygaster integriceps. This is the worst enemy of domestic agriculture.
