When do I need to repair the injectors?

Most often, the repair of injectors is needed in case of wear or premature contamination. And this is due to low-quality diesel fuel, which contains substances such as sulfur, dirt and even water. The latter substance greatly affects the wear of the injectors. The thing is that after stopping the engine, the water that is contained in the diesel fuel accumulates in the nozzles. And if the car does not move for several days (and possibly even hours), the mechanism of the injector starts to be corroded. Rust is formed on its surface, as a result of which all elements of this mechanism begin to break down, including the needle and sealing washers. After a while there are leaks of diesel fuel and the wrong operation of the injector itself. It can be detected by the color of the exhaust (usually black-black smoke from the muffler) and excessively high fuel consumption. This may also indicate a malfunction of the fuel system.

Characteristics and repair of common rail injectors

This nozzle is the most popular and the most durable among all existing today. After cleaning, it can be operated by another 100-200 thousand kilometers. How is the repair of injectors of this brand?

Specialists recommend replacing or cleaning injectors only at maintenance stations. That's where there are all the necessary tools for repair. Independently in the garage conditions you will not achieve anything, because simply damage the fuel system. First, the SRT is diagnosed, after which the master determines whether your iron friend needs repair or not. Diagnosis is carried out with the help of specialized equipment, which allows you to determine the true cause of the failure and the overall condition of the entire fuel system. After this process, repairs begin. The nozzle pump and many other parts are subject to global cleaning. At the same time, rust, accumulated soot and various harmful impurities are removed from their surfaces. Often cleaning and repair of nozzles is carried out in a special ultrasonic bath. Further, the specialists examine the mechanism for damage. This stage is carried out using a plunger pump with a manometer and a union. The manometer allows you to determine the exact pressure at which the injector is injecting diesel fuel.

About the replacement resource

Often the manufacturers of injectors indicate the mileage in advance, through which the mechanism should be replaced. Typically, the replacement resource is 110-150 thousand kilometers. For cars it is approximately 3-4 years of operation. During this period, the nozzle does not need to be repaired and cleaned (of course, with high-quality diesel fuel). But here it is worth noting the fact that after 150 thousand kilometers many motorists are in no hurry with the purchase and replacement of injectors. And for this there is a weighty reason: this mechanism during normal operation of the engine can continue to be operated about as much as the new one - all thanks to timely cleaning.
