Adjust the camber to the car

If the wheels of the car are at the wrong angles (camber-toe), the tires will wear out very quickly. But novice drivers are sometimes tormented by the question: "The collapse-convergence, what is it?". The convergence is considered to be the angle between the direction of movement of the wheel and its rotation. It is negative and positive. Tilting the wheel affects the stability of the car when cornering. In rear-wheel drive vehicles, the tires seem to be a bit closer together, "look" at each other (this effect is called positive convergence), in front- wheel drive vehicles - on the contrary. When driving, the wheels move away and stand on the road already in parallel. A disintegration is the angle that forms the plane of the wheel and the passing vertical. This parameter allows the machine to smoothly maneuver, rotate and improve the grip of the tire with the road surface.

Scientist Lee Hunter from America is considered the inventor of the stand, where the alignment-convergence was regulated. The sensors were attached to the wheels, they focused rays of light, with their help they could accurately measure the angle of inclination. The invention received the name "optical stand", but already in 10 years it was replaced by a computer program. Today, in order to measure the collapse-convergence, the equipment is used electronically.

Signs of the need for adjustment of camber-convergence

  • With improper convergence, there is a strong wear and tear of rubber and increased fuel consumption.
  • The tire "bald" is uneven.
  • On a flat stretch of road, if you release the steering wheel, the car will start to sidetrack. This is fraught with an accident.

Sequencing:

  1. With the help of the lift the car rises, the undercarriage is checked (lifting the top part of the car). If the test results are positive, rotate circles are displayed (similar operations can be made without a lift on the pit).
  2. We measure the pressure in the tires and the load of the trunk. We lower pressure on half of atmosphere and we fasten grippers with measuring heads. In the program we enter the data about the machine (number, mileage, mark, etc.).
  3. Remember that any new drive will not be perfectly flat, make compensation. Turning the wheel a third of a turn, fix it with a measuring head. On the screen you can see the results of compensation. If the wheel mark on the stand lights up green, then everything is set correctly, you can move on to the next wheel.
  4. The keys are left in the ignition lock , we install the brake latch, the handbrake and press the car. We set the level on the measuring heads (it happens both normal and electronic). On 3D, everything follows the same pattern, the only plus - to determine compensation, the car is rolled with targets slightly back, and then forward, thereby shortening the compensation time. Turning the wheels in different directions, we give the computer the opportunity to calculate the corners of the adjustments. The indicators that were painted red during the test are subject to adjustment.
  5. We unscrew the nut on the rear convergence and eccentric achieve the desired position of the wheel. Then, by the same principle, we set the front convergence. To properly adjust, you need to look at the indicators on the monitor.
  6. We remove the measuring heads or targets. Adjustment is complete. The collapse-convergence is now normal!
