What is Hostess? Debunking myths about the profession

Increasingly, on websites and in newspapers about work, you can see ads about the vacancy "hostess". What kind of post is this and what is it like? Briefly, the hostess is a restaurant or cafe employee who meets visitors - the "owner of the hall" and the "face" of the institution. Most often in this post are girls. They are the first to meet guests, accompany them to the table, help them to understand the menu and choose an order, etc. In other words, they play the role of hospitable hostesses and do everything to make visitors feel most comfortable.

Many people do not fully understand what hostess is, and they often believe that this work is mysteriously connected with prostitution. But this is a completely wrong idea. If the institution is respectable and respectable, then there is no question of any "clandestine" confusions. All that is required of a girl is to look beautiful, smile, be friendly and sociable. Of course, in addition, she must perfectly understand the menu and wine list, be aware of all the actions that the restaurant is conducting, skillfully guide the waiters and even guard, control the order in the hall. Also it is desirable to know at least one foreign language, because in restaurants or nightclubs, which can afford to keep in the staff of professional hostesses, often there is an intourist.

Also, the work of the hostess is often confused with the consumption. What's the Difference? At least in that the consumers communicate with a particular guest and get a percentage of the booze ordered for her. In addition, the "cons" are mostly dancers clubs. Hostess does not do it. And even if one of the guests treats her with a drink, she will not get a percentage from it. And in most decent institutions of this category, employees are not allowed to drink alcohol. After all, what is a hostess? It's actually an administrator who has to do everything and control everything. In a state of intoxication it will not be easy. In fact, the hostess is a fairly responsible position. It depends on how the guest will be met and how it will be served, it depends on whether this person becomes a regular visitor of this institution or not.

And what is a hostess in a hotel? Almost the same thing as in a restaurant and in a nightclub. The only difference is that the hotel "hostess", having met the guests, distributes them to the numbers, intelligently organizes the service. It is she who first comes to the rescue, if the guests have some difficulties or misunderstandings. If necessary, she will book tickets for the guests in an emergency order, arrange tours with guide-guides, book a taxi. If the hotel has a restaurant, then the hostess tracks the access system of those guests, whose meals have already been paid.

But not only on earth there is such a profession. What is hostess on board? In fact, it's the same stewardess, but even more professional than the "standard" stewardess. In addition to the food and drink distribution and explanations of the rules of conduct on board, the "landlady" of the liner should be able to provide first aid, keep order in the cabin, know foreign languages, calm passengers in emergency situations, skillfully supervise the work of personnel.

On the one hand, it seems that the work of the hostess is not so complicated. It would seem that it could be easier than every day to look wonderful, communicate with people and get money for it? But any medal has a downside. It's good, if the working day passes without excesses, but the human factor still has not been canceled. If you are not stress-resistant, do not know how to "resolve" conflict situations peacefully, then you can be sure: in a month or two (or even earlier) you will be provided with a nervous breakdown. If such "little things" do not frighten you at all, then welcome to a new profession.
