What is DFU mode? IPad: how to activate DFU mode?

If you have any problems with the software on the iPad, or there was a need to erase all the information from the device - you know what is the update and recovery.

In the same case, if suddenly you did not encounter either one or the other, and also do not know what the DFU-mode (iPad or iPhone - there is no difference), this article will be useful to you. In it, we'll look at how to work with this mode, what it is. Do not be frightened by the terminology and, at first glance, the complex abbreviations - everything is very easy and simple. A person who has minimal experience with a computer and a tablet can handle this.

General view

First, let's clarify what the DFU-mode is. The iPad, as you know, operates under the iOS operating system. When you work with it, you use a touch screen that responds to touch. This is how the device control procedure is carried out - the GUI accepts commands sent by the user, after which the OS processes them and reacts properly.

Device Firmware Update (this is the deciphering of this abbreviation) - the firmware update mode. When the DFU mode is on, iPad 2 does not load the graphical shell. Simply put, the device does not show signs of life at all, since its screen is empty. You see only a black background, so it may seem that the tablet is turned off.

In fact, the device functions normally, you can simply connect to it via a USB cable connected to the computer. On the latter, in turn, iTunes must be installed. As soon as you connect to the iPad's DFU mode, a window appears immediately on the screen, indicating the recognition of such a device.

What is the function of DFU?

DFU mode is an excellent feature that allows you to control the tablet in any situation, regardless of the error that occurred. Let's put it this way: this is an emergency mode in case the software of the gadget fails and controls the device using classical methods (pressing the Home button or touching the screen) will not be possible.

Switching to DFU-mode, iPad can be transferred to the firmware update mode. This means that it will install a more recent version of the operating system. The error that led to the initial loss of control of the device will be eliminated.

How to activate?

To convert iPad to DFU mode, you need to perform the simplest combination with the Home and Power keys. Before this, of course, you need to connect the device to the PC with a USB cable. Then you need to hold down the keys for about 10 seconds. Then release the Power button, and keep the Home key back until the computer displays a message that the iPad was recognized in DFU mode.

If you see it, you know - you managed to enter the iPad into DFU mode, and now you can start to update or restore the firmware. The difference between them is that in the case of an update, you can thus simply install a more recent version of iOS on your gadget, if available.

Speaking of the restoration, it should be noted, first, the same update to the latest version of the operating system; And secondly, the removal of all information that was on the device. With this you should be more careful, as, as you know, it will not be possible to return it at the end of this procedure.

How to get out?

When you perform the flashing action and your device receives a new version of iOS without errors and crashes, you need to exit DFU mode. This is done simply: once again, hold down both the Power and Home keys for 10-12 seconds, then release and press the Power button once. This will trigger a reboot of the device, and in this case - its activation and entry into normal operation mode. The fact that the iPad came out of DFU, you'll understand by the logo of Apple, which appears on the screen.

In general, this mode can be useful for many reasons. It is not known exactly how many errors your device can give out. And to consider them does not make sense, since their number is probably close to infinity. But you know that to cope with them can upgrade the operating system, which is easily carried out in safe mode DFU.

If you have this knowledge, you will not need to contact the service center to remove the software error. You can do this even at home. This, obviously, was the goal of Apple - to make such a simple and convenient product, so that even a layman at home can eliminate the resulting system malfunction in it. As you can see, they succeeded.
