IPhone can be hacked at the touch of a button!

Not so long ago, the world flew around the news about the shortcomings of the iOS operating system from Apple. As it turned out, the iPhone can be hacked at the touch of a button. Israeli burglars managed to develop a unique commercial software that penetrates the device after it invites the user to follow the link. Thus, hackers manage to install the virus on the smartphone.

"Trident"

Malware is so tricky that it uses a chain of three vulnerabilities in the iOS operating system. Due to remote jailbreak crackers managed to compromise Apple products.

How did you detect malicious software?

This was done by Ahmed Mansour, a human rights lawyer, whose mobile device was previously subjected to spy attacks. Therefore, when on August 10 and 11, suspicious text messages arrived on his iPhone6, the lawyer learned by bitter experience did not click on the links that popped up in the window. According to the perpetrators, an active fighter for the rights of citizens in the territory of the United Arab Emirates was to intrigue this text: "It's time to learn about torture in the state prisons of the UAE." The activist immediately appealed to the Citizens Rights Organization Citizen Lab, whose specialists contacted Lookout Security. The sent text message should be checked by the service specialists for the presence of a malicious program.

Potential hazards

Here's what the Citizen Lab experts say: "If Mr. Ahmed Mansour switched over the link offered in the SMS, a digital spy would appear in his mobile device." The camera and microphone would allow monitoring all his actions committed in the reach zone of the device. Would enable crackers to control all messages and calls in WhatsApp and Viber services, register messages sent via the "Mobile chat" application and track all its movements. "

One of the most complex cyber spyware

As a result, fears of a human rights activist were not in vain. Lookout Security experts were impressed by the complexity of the cyber-spyware program. At least, before they did not have to deal with a situation where an iPhone could be hacked with a single click of a button. Of course, Apple was immediately aware of the incident. Within ten days, engineers developed an emergency update, which allowed to close all three vulnerabilities.

A good salary or fight against crime?

Later it turned out that the creation of malicious software is based on the Israeli company NSO Group, which has already received the nickname "cyber-traffickers". They are engaged in the development of legal malicious programs, which are then resold to special services and government structures around the world. It is known that for the development of a separate special order cyberspies can receive a reward of $ 1 million. The company conducts legal development, but at the same time shows extreme caution. There is no website on the Internet, and there are no comments in the press. If you could address them for clarification, you would immediately get the perfect answer: "We help government services to fight criminals and terrorists."
