How to enter an iPhone into DFU mode

DFU-mode is an option where you can turn on your iPhone in such a configuration, in which it can interact with iTunes, but it will not boot up its operating system or bootloader (this is what really distinguishes this mode from the recovery mode). You can say that entering it means updating the firmware of the device.

Why is DFU mode usually used?

The main reason people need to switch to DFU mode on their mobile devices is to change the firmware on the device. This can happen for various reasons: the need to return the iPhone and its operating system to its previous state, or use the custom firmware that is required for jailbreak or unlock SIM. For example, if you installed the iPhone OS of the new version, and then decided that you prefer the previous one, you need to reset the new installation using DFU mode.

How to enter DFU mode in iPhone?

Connect your iPhone to your computer and start iTunes. Turn off the smartphone (hold the power button at the top of the mobile). Press and hold the power button or Sleep simultaneously with Home for exactly 10 seconds, and then release the first one. Continue to hold Home until iTunes displays a message stating that your iPhone was in recovery mode.

When you enter DFU mode, the iPhone screen will be completely black.

Even though the screen becomes dark, it does not mean that the device can not be synchronized with iTunes or another service (for jailbreaking, etc.).

Remember that if you see the iTunes logo, a recovery tip, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode. Instead, you have a standard recovery mode. Again, the DFU-mode is determined only by the presence of a completely black screen on the device. If something else is happening, repeat the above steps until you switch to the specified mode successfully.

The easiest way to exit DFU mode is to hold Home and Sleep / Enable when connecting to iTunes. After that, just press the power button, and this should reboot the device, as usual.
