Welding of copper - the main points of this procedure

Copper refers to metals with high electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity. Copper melts at a temperature of 1085 degrees Celsius and differs from other metals by high density.

How is copper welding performed? Let us consider in more detail!

Welding of copper is carried out by graphite, carbon, metal electrodes, and also in a gaseous medium. The technology of graphite and carbon electrodes is based on the use of a tungsten electrode, which is a welding arc. The seam is formed in this case by melting the filler material and the edges of the article.

Also, to weld copper with carbon or graphite electrodes, it is necessary to process the edges of welded parts. This can be done with grinding power tools.

Welding of copper by electrodes is made due to the use of protective fluxes. In this case, boron slag or borax acts as a flux. Before welding, the drill is applied to bevels.

After the flux has dried, you can start welding copper. This requires a filler material. Often, this is a bronze or copper wire. The diameter of the additive depends on the thickness of the product. To obtain a strong weld, you will need to heat the chamfer. This procedure should be carried out before starting copper welding. In addition, it is necessary to patch the seam and quickly cool it. Copper is produced by welding with carbon and graphite electrodes on direct current.

If a steel electrode is used for this, then the electrode material is completely dependent on the material of the article to be welded. Usually, bronze variants are used for this. The source of current here is a welding machine or other welding transformers and devices.

To weld copper with protection of inert gases, melting and non-consumable electrodes are used. Non-consumables include tungsten rods, copper and bronze electrodes to melted ones.

To perform copper welding with a tungsten rod, alternating and direct current is used, for welding with copper and bronze - a constant. The most reliable and durable welding connection is considered to be welding of copper in a gaseous medium.

Argon welding as the most universal method

Welding of copper with argon is a universal option with many advantages. This process is applied in the following cases:

  • The appearance of the part, design is important;
  • Gently brew a crack or hole;
  • Restore previously broken attachment.

Types of welding aggregates

Welding apparatus is a general designation of the conventional type of a whole group of devices for industrial use, used for electric arc welding by melting. Professionals often use a welding machine as a welding power source. The greatest demand is for equipment for manual welding with a piece electrode.

Welding machines are classified as follows:

- devices for performing gas and contact welding of a manual type;

- devices with semi-automatic and automatic control of the welding process;

- apparatus for special welding: welding argon-arc installation.

It should also be noted that today household welding machines are in great demand among the population.
