Wedge gate valve for pipelines

The wedge gate valve is installed in pipelines, as equipment that ensures the overlapping of the working flow of the medium perpendicular to which the movement of the lock occurs. The passage to the device is closed by translational movement of the shutter in a perpendicular direction from the moving medium. The wedge gate has its name due to the shape of the lock in its construction, in which the arrangement of the seals is made at an angle to each other. The closing mechanism is performed by turning the steering wheel to the right. The body of the device is made straight, which prevents the possible accumulation of various precipitations on its walls.

According to the type of the gate valve, the wedges are:

• with a solid rigid wedge;

• with elastic (with lateral guiding surfaces);

• with a wedge made up of two disks.

The use of a rigid wedge in locking devices with small diameters makes the design more reliable and hermetically sealed. However, with significant fluctuations in the operating temperature of the transported medium, equipment may become jammed in the enclosure.

The wedge gate valve is used mainly on horizontal pipelines. The flywheel of the device must be located at the top. The spindle must be in an upright position.

By the type of connection of wedge gate valves to the pipeline they have the following types:

• for welding;

• coupling;

• wedge gate valve flange.

Equipment of this type is manufactured in various ways: by casting, forging or by welding. Stamped latches have a body made of parts connected by a welding method. In this case they have much smaller dimensions and mass. Devices of this type are used for both gaseous and liquid media with temperatures up to + 300 ° C. The tightness class of wedge-shaped stamped welded valves is determined in accordance with GOST 9544-2005 and has the designation: В, С, D.

Wedge-type shut-off devices are used for transportation of natural and liquefied gas, steam, oil products, chemically active and corrosive liquids.

The wedge gate valve is manufactured in the following modifications:

• with electric drive series SA;

• c gearbox series K;

• with telescopic extension of the stem.

Each of all types of this equipment has its advantages and disadvantages, as well as the scope of application. Advantages of wedge gate valves consist, first of all, in the simplicity of design, durability, reliability, maintainability, resistance to environmental influences, etc. The small hydraulic resistance of these locking devices made them irreplaceable for pipelines with a medium that moves at high speed. All these qualities make this armature very popular in industrial enterprises and in public utilities. The body of wedge gate valves is made full-length, that is, the diameter of the flow-through section is not narrowed. However, in some cases, narrower devices are used, which allows to achieve a significant reduction in effort and torque of control systems, as well as reduce the weight and overall dimensions of the equipment.
