"Virgin Soil Upturned," a summary of the changes in the life of peasants

Known to the whole world, as the author of the epic "Quiet Flows the Don", Mikhail Sholokhov is the author of a number of books, among which honorary place is occupied by "Virgin Soil Upturned". Who did not read "The Fate of Man", let alone watch the film with Sergei Bondarchuk in the title role? Who is not imbued with the idea of patriotism and love for his people in the essay "They fought for their homeland"? And the novel "Quiet Flows the Don" about the Don Cossacks, which Sholokhov liked to describe, I want to read again and again. Summary "Virgin Soil Upturned" is all about the same Don Cossacks, and we will explain it a little lower.

Historical events, against which the action of the novel developed.

The novel "Virgin Soil Upturned," its brief content is difficult to express in several paragraphs, and to be able not to lose the main thing that the author has invested in him. The name itself speaks about the changes in the life of ordinary peasants in the village of Gremyachy Log. In the center is the problem of uniting the inhabitants of this village into collective farms, and countering this local admirers of the old regime. The struggle between the two regimes: the old and the new is based on the novel "Virgin Soil Upturned." The summary of the novel tells about this struggle, about the problems of collectivization. All that is new and incomprehensible to the local population of the Gremyachogo Log is perceived with hostility, a denial, because no one has explained the advantages of the collective farms. It is for this work that a locksmith from Rostov, Comrade Davydov, comes to the village. After several lectures among the local population, the poor people themselves reached out to the collective farm, finding it the only option to survive. But local fists, trying to organize an uprising against the new regime, also succumbed to the heat in the fire.
In Gremyachy Log bright representatives of the "whites" were: the former hundred-time commander of Polovtsi, the fists of Ostrovnov, Tit Borodin, Frol Damascus (Ragged). In a long and hard struggle collectivization still wins.

"Virgin Soil Upturned," a summary of the chapters of the first book:

- in the first three chapters the events are just beginning to be tied up: Davydov comes to the village of Gremyachy Log, and Polovtsev arrives at the Island, with the idea of a secret conspiracy, which is described in detail in the third chapter;

- in the fourth and fifth chapter, Davydov's activities are described, his successful attempts to persuade the people to volunteer for the collective farm;

- the next five chapters narrate about the dekulakization of local opponents of collectivization and the slow entry into the collective farm.

Davydov, Nagulnov, Razetnov

Three main characters of the work "Virgin Soil Upturned." The summary can not fully cover their characters, lifestyles, but we can say with confidence about their patriotism and fidelity to the idea. Probably, no one expected such a tragic outcome - the death of Davydov and Nagulnov. It would seem that these three characters will always live, they are like one inseparable whole. But, alas, fate or the author ordered otherwise, and in the living, with a victory over his fists in his hands, only Razmetnov remained. With these two secretaries, the Party leaders immediately get to know Davidov, who embodies the Sholokhov ideal of loyalty to the Party, unselfishness and love for the people; Razmetnov was noted for his spiritual sensitivity and morality, it was his relationship with the much older widow Marina that became the subject of discussion in the farm; Nagulnov - a loyal servant of the people, makes every effort to dekulakize for the early establishment of a collective farm on the farm. These were the main characters of the work "Virgin Soil Upturned." The summary can not contain all the details and descriptions, but it is important to read the novel completely.
