Victor Hugo's book "Cosette". Summary

This passage from Victor Hugo's novel The Les Miserables is widely perceived by many as a separate book. And in fact, the story of a small person inside a vast plot has a string, culmination and denouement - all that is necessary for an independent story. The writer had a special predilection for disadvantaged people, especially for children, and therefore in his novels children's images are written out especially vividly. This is another hero of the novel - Gavrosh, who died on the Parisian barricades, and a whole family of homeless children, and, of course, Cosette.

Summary

The girl's story begins with a description of the ill-fated fate of her mother, who was the victim of deception. She was seduced and thrown by a beloved man, she had a girl, and now Fantina is wandering around the world with her baby in search of food and work. But who will hire a woman with such a burden? She happens to be near the tavern of Tenardieu's spouses, who have three small children-two girls and a baby boy. During a conversation with the innkeeper, Fantina manages to persuade her to leave the girl with her, on condition that she will send money every month for her maintenance. The greedy wife of Tenardieu was pleased with this opportunity to earn extra money. And they stayed with their little Cosette.

The summary of the biography of the little girl in the sheltered home has no light. The evil Tenardie hated the child and believed that she eats their children. Although the poor girl ate, she ate under the table with dogs and cats. Mother accurately sent the promised money, but the greedy masters were not enough, and they raised the fee several times. Poor Fantina complied unreservedly with all their demands, although she had to sell her luxurious hair, and then her teeth.

From the age of five, Cosette became actually a servant in a tavern. The master's daughters did not let her into their games anymore, and treated her like a servant too. Mother no longer sent money - she died of consumption and longing for her daughter. The hopeless orphan life - that was what Cosette was doomed to. The summary of her misadventures is unlikely to fit in one description. The reader is confused in the soul of two feelings - pity for the child and resentment of human greed and anger. An unexpected turn in the fate of this Cinderella predetermined by the development of the plot Victor Hugo.

"Cosette" : a brief summary of the history of salvation

In one of the late late evenings the mistress sent the girl for water to a stream. The poor woman was terribly afraid of the dark, but even more afraid of the wrath of Mrs. Tenardieu. On the way, she stopped near the illuminated shop window and looked at her dream - a big beautiful doll. Then she ran to the stream and, shaking with fear, scooped up a bucket of water. She was dragging him, bent with gravity, and suddenly someone's strong hand picked up the bucket.

"This is too heavy a burden for you, child," said the stranger, "who sent you on such a night?"

"Mrs. Tenardieu, the hostess of the inn," Cosette said.

He helped convey the bucket and went into the tavern. The hostess looked contemptuously at the poorly dressed old man, but invited him to sit at the table. After talking with her, the guest learned how Cosette got to them, a brief summary of their misfortunes and impoverishment through the fault of this gluttonous prizhivalka. Cosette was sitting under the table, and at that moment, when the master's daughter distracted from her rag doll, she got out and grabbed it. The woman's anger fell on her head. Saved her stranger, who asked permission to take the orphan with him. The innkeeper was pleased, but Mr. Tenardieu intervened, who began to haggle: after all, he brought up this girl and is attached to her as to his own daughter, so that he does not agree to give it away simply. Unless for money. Finally came to an agreement. The stranger left the tavern and soon returned with a doll, the one she had admired in the window of Cosette. The innkeeper and her daughters almost burst with anger.

She walked away from this evil house, her handle tightly held by an unfamiliar old man in rags. This is the summary.
