Victor Hugo's book "Cosette". Summary

This passage from Victor Hugo's novel The Les Miserables is widely perceived by many as a separate book. The girl's story begins with a description of the ill-fated fate of her mother, who was the victim of deception. She was seduced and thrown by a beloved man, she had a girl, and now Fantina is wandering around the world with her baby in search of food and work. But who will hire a woman with such a burden? She happens to be near the tavern of Tenardieu's spouses, who have three small children-two girls and a baby boy. During a conversation with the innkeeper, Fantina manages to persuade her to leave the girl with her, on condition that she will send money every month for her maintenance. The greedy wife of Tenardieu was pleased with this opportunity to earn extra money. And they stayed with their little Cosette.
