Urethritis in men: symptomatology and treatment

Through the urethra (urethra) urine from the bladder is drawn out. Inflammation of the walls of the urethra is called urethritis. This disease is manifested by severe pain in the process of urination, as well as secretions of a different nature. Urethritis is affected by representatives of the female and male. Given the anatomical structure of the urethra, urethritis in men is more often recorded than in the fair sex, in whom the disease passes in a latent form.

Pain during urination is more pronounced in the acute course of the disease. The incubation period of urethritis can be up to three weeks. Chronic urethritis in men is manifested with a decrease in the overall immunological resistance of the body, as well as in the insufficient treatment of gonorrheic urethritis in acute flow. It should be said that urethritis can be complicated by prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate), vesiculitis (inflammation of the seminal vesicles), orchitis (inflammation of testes), balanitis and balanoposthitis, and narrowing of the urethra (urethral stricture). In women, inflammation of the urethra is most often complicated by imbalance of the vaginal microflora, cystitis (inflammation of the bladder), and other inflammatory pathologies of the urinary tract.

Urethritis in men: treatment

At the heart of the treatment of the inflammation of the urethra is antimicrobial therapy. Treatment of chronic urethritis involves the use of antibacterial and immunostimulating drugs, as well as instillation in the urethra of medicines. Purulent urethritis in men is treated with the use of drugs of silver - collargol, a solution of silver nitrate (installation in the urethra).

When narrowing the urethra, its bougie using special probes is used. Urethritis in men, which is caused by Trichomonas, develops within two weeks after infection. This kind of urethritis is often complicated by the development of trichomoniasis prostatitis. The most effective therapeutic agents for this type of inflammation are tinidazole, metronidazole, and tiberal. In order to prevent recurrence of the disease, the same drugs are prescribed for the sexual partner of the patient. Treatment of urethritis in men in severe form caused by Trichomonas is performed with the appointment of instillation in the urethra 1% solution of Trichomonacid. Bacterial urethritis often occurs when basic rules of antiseptics and asepsis are not observed in the process of catheterization of the bladder. Treatment of this form of urethritis is carried out taking into account the causes that caused the disease, as well as the sensitivity of the pathogen to antibacterial drugs. Urethritis of bacterial genesis is often accompanied by cystitis. Together with antibiotic therapy, physiological procedures are prescribed. When the treatment is ineffective, instillations with the use of preparations of silver and a solution of dioxidine are prescribed. In viral urethritis, drugs with a wide spectrum of action in combination with hormonal drugs (prednisolone, corticosterone, dexamethasone) are prescribed. Urethritis of fungal genesis is treated with the use of antimicrobial and antimycotic therapy.

For the prevention of urethritis, certain recommendations should be followed. So, it should be remembered that hypothermia increases the risk of inflammation of the urethra. Doctors advise not to abuse sharp, salty, smoked, pickled products, as well as alcoholic beverages. But to consume more juices and mineral water. It is necessary to observe the hygiene of the sexual organs, to have a regular sex life (to have regular sexual partners). In case of accidental sexual intercourse, a condom should be used.
