How to make a weather vane with your hands from a plastic bottle

Weathercock was invented long ago as a meteorological indicator of the strength and direction of the wind. Later it began to be used as a decoration of a house or an advertisement of some institution. For example, a shoemaker installed himself at the entrance to a weathervane with a picture of a boot. He turned from the wind and attracted the attention of passers-by, luring him into the workshop. The barber used a weathervane-scissors, a miller-the image of a mill.

Variety of weathercocks

The manufacture of wind vanes attracted many craftsmen. They made them forged and carved, wooden and steel. The artists came up with plot pictures with moving figures. In the old days people were so carried away by such an occupation that almost every building had this decoration. Kinds of weathervanes impress experts till now. During Soviet times, the manufacture of such products was quieted down, but now the tradition is reviving.

In our time, the quality and variety of materials is very large. They are made by professional masters and ordinary people. Knowing how to make a weathercock, a child can perform this operation. Children already in the kindergarten make simple windmills from paper. But plastic bottles can make a weathervane schoolchildren or parents with children.

Weathervane "Yula"

To make a weathervane with your own hands from a plastic bottle, you need to have a 2-liter empty bottle, you can take a color bottle. Cut it in half. In the center of the round bottom you need to punch a hole and scroll it several times with a heated metal rod. From the temperature, the plastic will melt, and the hole will have a beautiful smooth edge. This is to ensure that the weather vane freely rotates around its axis.

The next stage will be cutting a fringe of the same length on the lower and upper half. To the brim we leave 5 cm. After this, the strips must be smoothed to the base so that the flower turns out. Next is the process of gluing them together. In order to obtain a volumetric weathervane, you need to glue one of the bands upside down and move it to one. As a result we have the form of a Christmas tree lamp.

You can decorate the stripes pattern. For this, horizontal lines or circles are drawn. It remains to put the bottle on a stick and to hammer a nail through the lid. Clog it loose, so that the bottle is free to spin.

Two-story weathervane

In order to make a self-made weather vane of 2 tiers, you need to have a very sharp blade or clerical knife. Take a two-liter plastic bottle, mark the marker 2 strips of parallel stripes at the top and 2 bars at the bottom. The distance between the strips is different, for example, between the upper strips - 5 cm, and between the lower ones - 10 cm. Then the most laborious process begins. It is necessary to measure the perimeter of the bottle with a round meter, divide it into equal parts, put points on top and bottom. Between the stripes, using the template, draw the semicircles, connecting the opposite points.

The same thing to do with the bottom two strips. It remains to cut correctly on the marked semicircles. However, with an empty bottle this will be difficult, so it is better to fill it with something dense, for example, sand. Obtained arcs will need to be smoothed, bending in the opposite direction. Further, if desired, paint the upper arcs in one color, the lower ones with another, and stick a strip of colored tape between them. Then the procedure is completely repeated, as in the first weathercock. You need to punch a hole in the bottom of the bottle and pass through the hole a string, hanging on a branch.

"Ferris wheel"

In each summer cottage there is an old children's bicycle, from which the child has long grown. We will use it to make a weathervane with our own hands from a plastic bottle. Although a few bottles are needed, an even number is desirable. For an aesthetic appearance, you can take a bottle of different size and color. For example, large bottles will be yellow, and small ones will be green. Next, we will deal with the marking of the wheel.

To do this, draw a drawing of the weather vane with dimensions. First, circle the wheel on a piece of old wallpaper. To mark the center on the resulting circle and split it into equal sectors so that there is an even number of radii. At the point of connection with the circle, we put dots. After marking, we transfer everything to the wheel. Next we drill holes in a circle, into each we insert a bolt and we fasten the lid from the bottle so that the thread was outside the wheel.

The next stage will be the preparation of bottles. Small screws are screwed through one lid at once to the wheel, and from large ones - a part of the side wall is cut off. It turns out a blade, which will repel air when the weather vane rotates. Then we also screw them into the remaining places. Blades should look in one direction.

It remains only to make the holder for the wheel. Here you can use a wooden bar, on top of which on a long bolt a bicycle wheel is attached.

Horizontal spinner

One of the fastest ways to make a weathervane with your own hands from a plastic bottle is the manufacture of a horizontal turntable. To do this, take an empty 1.0- or 1.5-liter bottle, preferably a colored one. From the top, at the beginning of a flat surface, mark the equal width of the strip. The distance between them should also be the same. Cut through the lines to the end of the even part of the bottle, to the bottom rim.

Next we make cuts from below, through one. One strip is left in place, and the next one should be cut from the bottom and bent in the opposite direction. The edge of the strip is better rounded. Next in the lid make a hole for the metal rod. One part of it is inserted into the wooden block, and the other - into the bottle through the lid. Blades are adorned at will.

The most simple weathercock

This option will show how to make a weathervane simply and quickly, when there is absolutely no time for it, and the child urgently needed it. We take a plastic bottle, preferably two liters, and make the cuts in the form of a square bracket.

The resulting rectangles are bent to the side until a right angle is formed. It remains to do in the bottom hole and insert a thin rod. The product is ready. At the same time, since the kid has already made you work hard, you, in turn, give him the task of beautifully decorating the weathercock.

Plastic Scarecrow

Sometimes gardeners and gardeners, in order to preserve the fruits on the trees, use weathervanes, which in the wind spin and scare the birds. The last version of the weather vane should be put on a pole in the middle of the garden, and your harvest will be saved. To do this, take two identical 1.5-liter bottles and cut off their bottom. Then we glue them together. You can use hot melt with a gun, and you can wrap a few times with a transparent tape. It turns out a long cylinder.

Next, you need six bottoms with small plastic bottles of the same size. Also, we take hot-melt glue and glue 3 bottoms at the side surface, at an equal distance around the top of the cylinder. We do the same from below. Open part of the bottom should look in one direction. It remains to take paint or a multi-colored sticker and draw features of our scarecrow. Further in the lids we make holes and put the construction on a long metal rod.

As you can see, making a weathervane with your own hands from a plastic bottle is not an easy matter. You can come up with your own options.
