Pharmacological properties

What is the MaxiKold drug? Instructions for use indicate that this combination is an analgesic and antipyretic action designed to alleviate the symptoms of flu and colds.

According to experienced specialists, the effect of this drug is due to the properties of the substances that make up its composition.

  • Phenylephrine is called alpha-1-adrenostimulant, which practically does not affect the beta-adrenoreceptors of the heart. Also, it is not catecholamine. This substance causes the narrowing of the arterioles, which greatly facilitates breathing, reduces flushing of the mucosa and edema of the nasal cavity.
  • Paracetamol is a non-narcotic analgesic. It has antipyretic and analgesic properties, which are due to blockade of cyclooxygenase in the central nervous system and exposure to centers of thermoregulation and pain. This substance reduces fever, as well as muscle and headaches.
  • Ascorbic acid helps to increase the body's resistance to infections, and replenishes the body's need for vitamin C, especially for flu and colds.

Pharmacokinetics

What kinetic parameters does the MaxiKold preparation have? Instruction for use states that each component of this product has its own absorption properties.

Paracetamol is absorbed from the intestine. Its maximum concentration is observed after 30-180 minutes. The connection with plasma proteins is 15%. Metabolism of this substance occurs in the liver. Its half-life period varies within 1-4 hours. The drug is mainly given up by the kidneys.

After taking the medicine inside, phenylephrine is badly absorbed from the digestive tract. Its metabolism occurs with the participation of monoamine oxidase in the walls of the intestine, as well as during the first passage through the liver. The bioavailability of phenylephrine is very low.

Vitamin C is absorbed from the digestive tract, mainly in the small intestine. Its highest concentration is observed after 4 hours. The drug quite easily penetrates into platelets and leukocytes, and then into all tissues of the body.

The maximum concentration of this substance is noted in the glandular organs, the lens of the eye, leukocytes and liver. It also penetrates the placenta. Metabolism of ascorbic acid is carried out in the liver, where it is converted into oxaloacetic and deoxy-ascorbic acid and ascorbate-2-sulfate. The excretion of vitamin C occurs through the kidneys, intestines, sweat and breast milk.
