The drug "Siofor". Instructions for use, contraindications

The hypoglycemic preparation "Siofor" belongs to the biguanide group. The active substance of the drug metformin has hypoglycemic properties and provides a decrease in the concentration of glucose in the blood, is not a stimulant of insulin secretion. The mechanism of action of active metformin is based on the ability to suppress gluconeogenesis, fat oxidation and the formation of fatty acids, it affects the pharmacodynamics of insulin, namely, an increase in the ratio of insulin to proinsulin.

The drug "Siofor" enhances blood flow in the liver, due to this glucose quickly turns into glycogen. The hardly noticeable anorexigenic effect of taking the drug helps to slow the absorption of carbohydrates into the intestines.

In the description of the indications for the use of the preparation "Siofor" the instruction calls the 2 nd type of diabetes mellitus (insulin-independent form). Especially recommended is a medicine with ineffective diet and obesity.

How to take "Siofor", it is better to ask the attending physician, he prescribes the duration of intake and dosage depending on individual indications, from the glucose level in the patient in particular. It is recommended to conduct therapy with a gradual increase in the daily dosage of the drug "Siofor", the instruction indicates starting with 1-2 tablets, increasing to 3 with an interval of one week. The maximum daily dose of the drug is 6 tablets, or 3 g of active substance inside.

Due to the individual intolerance of the drug, the patients may exhibit side effects, based on the inhibitory effect on the digestive system and hematopoiesis. In the first case, the patient may be concerned about abdominal pain, mouthfeel, metallic vomiting and nausea, anorexia may occur. Strangely enough, it is not advisable to stop the treatment with Siofor if there are such symptoms, and do not decrease its dosage; on the contrary, an increase in the daily dose of the drug will help to achieve the disappearance of side effects.

In the second case, the development of megaloblastic anemia is possible. Sometimes patients experience an allergic reaction in the form of skin itching.

Most medical preparations have pathologies, in which their reception is contraindicated. In the case of Siofor, the instruction indicates a large list of diseases that are a kind of stop-factor for the treatment of this drug. These include:

- type 1 diabetes mellitus, insulin-dependent ;

- type 2 diabetes mellitus, provided that the body completely stops producing insulin;

- diabetic precoma, diabetic ketoacytosis and coma;

- heart failure, myocardial infarction including;

- hepatic, renal failure;

- infectious diseases (severe form);

- pulmonary, respiratory failure (severe forms);

- chronic alcoholism;

- hypoxia;

- acidosis of lactic acid;

- childhood;

- Hypersensitivity to the active substance - metformin.

As follows from medical indications, the drug "Siofor" and pregnancy are two mutually exclusive concepts.

When the specialist prescribes treatment with Siofor, the instruction recommends that close attention be paid to certain special instructions, this is especially true for patients over the age of 65 and patients whose activities require prompt psychomotor reactions and concentration of attention. The same applies to drivers of vehicles.

Unfortunately, it happens that treatment with Siofor coincides with the adoption of other medications, which can lead to an overdose due to mutual reinforcement. It is manifested by severe symptoms, lactic acidosis develops, hypoglycemia accompanied by tachycardia, increased sweating, hungry and trembling. In severe cases, loss of consciousness is possible. As a therapeutic agent, glucose acts here, when the patient is in the mind, it is prescribed inside, unconsciously injected intravenously, when the glycemia is weakened, the patient needs a carbohydrate-rich food.

The drug is dispensed only on medical prescription, the maximum period of its storage is 3 years at room temperature.
