The drug 'Eutiroks', side effects of hormone therapy

The thyroid gland is an important component in the system of metabolism, the general well-being of a person largely depends on its functioning. Central Asia, for example, is a specific area where the lack of thyroid hormones affects the growth and mental development of children and adolescents and is associated with a shortage of iodine in water and soil. The most dangerous violation in the work of the thyroid gland in infancy, these babies very much lag behind peers.

The daily need for iodine in adults is 150 μg, in children from 50 to 120 μg, and in pregnant women - 200 μg per day. In diseases of the thyroid gland, caused by insufficient intake of this trace element into the body, there is little to treat one iodine. First, substitution therapy is carried out with a drug containing the hormone itself, for example, with the medicine "Eutiroks". Side effects with such treatment, of course, are possible, but with strict adherence to dosage, they are minimal.

"Eutirox" preparation, instruction

The drug is a synthetic thyroid hormone L-thyroxine, which in therapeutic doses increases the rate of metabolic processes, participates in the assimilation of fats, proteins and carbohydrates, increases the activity of the nervous and cardiovascular systems. Normalization of thyroxine levels in children and adolescents accelerates their growth, as well as physical and mental development.

The hormone "Eutiroks", whose side effects are associated with its concentration in the blood, is available in the form of tablets of varying dosage (from 25 to 150 micrograms). Such a wide range of doses is due to the fact that the required amount of the drug in children and adults varies. The duration of treatment with Eutirox, the dosage and the regimen is determined only by the endocrinologist.

The drug is prescribed for hypothyroidism, benign euthyroid goiter, as a replacement therapy after resection and with thyroid cancer, and also in combination with other drugs with thyrotoxicosis.

Eutirox, side effects

Unpleasant symptoms appear in the event that a large dose of the hormone enters the blood, and all body systems may suffer.

  • Heart: tachycardia, arrhythmia, stenocardia.
  • Nervous system: tremor, agitation, headache, cramps, fever, weakness, insomnia.
  • Digestion: diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss.
  • Endocrine system: hot flashes, menstrual irregularities.

After the disappearance of the above symptoms, the drug should begin to drink with minimal doses. It is necessary to see a doctor if, even after stopping the use of Eutirox tablets, the side effects continue to bother. Perhaps the diagnosis is incorrect and requires revision.

Eutirox, overdose and contraindications

To drink a thyroxine it is impossible at not treated hyperthyroidism, pituitary and adrenal insufficiency, at warm pathologies (an infarct, a myocarditis, a pancarditis).

During pregnancy with hypothyroidism, the drug is taken continuously. Contraindicated in this period is the combination of Eutirox with thyreostatics in hyperthyroidism, which can provoke a thyroid deficiency in the fetus. During breast feeding, the drug should be taken under medical supervision.

Carefully prescribed hormonal remedy for heart disease.

Side effects of the drug may be associated not only with an overdose, but also with impaired functioning of the endocrine glands. Before appointing therapy with Eutirox, the doctor should exclude thyroid disease, accompanied by increased production of thyroid hormones. If hypothyroidism is caused by a pituitary lesion, you need to determine whether there is a deficiency in the adrenal cortex. In women in menopause, a large dose of thyroxine can lead to osteoporosis, so during this period, you need to carefully monitor the functioning of the thyroid gland and determine the level of its hormones in the blood.
