The agent "Streptomycin". Instructions for use
The drug "Streptomycin" is an antibiotic. The drug has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity. The drug is effective against tuberculous mycobacteria, a large number of gram-negative bacteria (against E. coli, brucellosis, tularemia, plague, and others) and a number of gram-positive (staphylococcus) microorganisms. Less activity is observed in relation to pneumococci, streptococci. The agent is resistant to anaerobes, viruses, rickettsia.
Indications
The drug is recommended for use in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis . The medication is also indicated in the purulent inflammatory processes of different localization, provoked by the activity of gram-negative, gram-positive, microbes sensitive to the active substance. In particular, the drug is prescribed in combination with drugs:
- "Levomycetin" - with pneumonia due to Klebsiella;
- "Tetracycline" - with tularemia and plague;
- With other antibiotics - with brucellosis and endocarditis.

Do not prescribe medication for lesions of the vestibular and auditory apparatus, cardiovascular insufficiency in severe form, renal dysfunction. Contraindications include pregnancy, disorders in the cerebral circulation, lactation period, obliterating endarteritis. The agent "Streptomycin" instruction for use does not recommend prescribing for myasthenia gravis, hypersensitivity. Do not mix drugs in one syringe with penicillin group medicines and cephalosporins.
Against the background of therapy, patients have various allergic and toxic negative manifestations. To the heaviest of them, experts refer to the lesions of a number of cranial nerves and, as a consequence, hearing impairment and vestibular disorders.
