Temperature in infants: how to help crumbs

Fever is an indicator that the body crumbs against the bacteria that cause the disease. If your child's age is from three months to three years and the child has a low-grade fever (up to 37.8 ° C), the medication is unnecessary in this case, but it is still worthwhile to see a doctor to find out the cause of the fever. But if the temperature in infants is higher than subfebrile, then it must be "knocked down" by antipyretic drugs. Such preparations, intended for children, can be in different forms: suspensions, tablets, suppositories and syrups. If the crumb has not yet reached the age of three months and he has a fever, then it is necessary to call a local doctor or "ambulance", since fever may be a sign of a serious infection.

Normal temperature in infants

The normal temperature at crumbs is 37 degrees Celsius, if you measure it orally, in the armpits or knees, and 37.5 о С, if the measurements are made rectally. Elevated temperature in children is 37.5 ° C for oral measurements and 38 ° C for rectal.

How is temperature measured in infants

The temperature must be measured correctly, otherwise you will not get the correct information.

  1. For oral measurements, make sure that you have not used it beforehand rectally.
  2. Before you give your child a thermometer, rinse well in warm soapy water and dry well.
  3. If the temperature in infants is measured orally, then the thermometer should be kept for at least 20 minutes, otherwise it will not show reliable information.
  4. When measuring body temperature, you do not need to swaddle a child, walk around with a light loin and sliders.
  5. Never leave a crumb alone with a thermometer.
  6. After you finish the procedure, flush the thermometer with running water.

Infant Temperature: Causes

A fever, also known as fever, is not a disease in itself, and is most often a symptom of an infection or ear disease, lung, skin, or throat in the body. But besides this it can arise because of:

  1. Vaccines.
  2. Side effects of drugs.
  3. Inflammation.

Thus, if you notice a fever in your crumb, you should immediately contact your pediatrician.

How to reduce the temperature of an infant

In no case do not give the crumb, which is less than three months, no medication, without consulting the pediatrician. The temperature itself is "knocked down" by medical preparations, but in addition it is worth taking measures to make the baby feel better:

  1. Give your child more fluids. Otherwise, dehydration is possible. For small children, perfectly fit fruit drinks, compotes, jellies or broths.
  2. Do not make the child eat until he feels better.
  3. Provide the baby with enough rest.
  4. It is not necessary to "knit" crumbs, crawl with cotton pajamas or thin sliders with a raspashonka.
  5. If your child has a fever, give him an extra blanket and take it when the chill is over.
