Symptomatology, causes and treatment of thrombophlebitis of lower extremities

Thrombophlebitis of the veins is a very common disease. It is characterized by obstruction of the vessels and their inflammation. The causes of this problem are different. Most often contributes to the development of thrombophlebitis pregnancy, weak tone of the walls of blood vessels, infectious diseases of the body, excessive use of antibiotics. Traumas of veins, high level of blood coagulability are also the causes of the development of pathology.

Thrombophlebitis of superficial veins is as dangerous as the damage of deep vessels, although at first it does not disturb the general activity of the human body. You can identify acute and chronic form of the disease. Each of them has its own symptoms: a thickening of the walls of the vessels, which is accompanied by a pain syndrome, reddening of the skin. In neglected cases the patient can not move independently, the affected areas often swell, there is a high fever, pain in the head, lymph nodes increase.

Treatment of thrombophlebitis of the lower extremities is performed only after a thorough diagnosis, which includes palpation of the affected area, taking into account the patient's complaints, blood tests, as well as ultrasound or other computerized vascular examinations. The elimination of pathology should be approached seriously. Treatment depends on the form of thrombophlebitis and the degree of its severity.

If the disease progresses a long time, and conservative methods of eliminating the problem do not help, then doctors resort to a surgical operation. Its meaning consists in the complete or partial removal of the affected vessel. This method gives a lasting result and provides almost complete elimination of the problem. In addition, the recovery time of the patient is significantly reduced, and complications are virtually eliminated. But this method also has its contraindications: heart disease, age, skin problems.

If the vessels have not yet been changed, and the disease only begins to develop, then treatment of thrombophlebitis of the lower extremities should be carried out with the help of medications. Sometimes antibiotics are used (but not in cases when there is an increased coagulability of the blood). However, mild forms of the disease can be treated with local medications: ointments, tablets. It should be noted that such treatment is less effective, since subsequently thrombophlebitis may appear again.

If the pathology is not sufficiently developed, cold compresses (using herbal decoctions) and elastic bandage can help. Treatment of thrombophlebitis of the lower extremities is still carried out with the help of physiotherapeutic procedures: ultrasound, electrophoresis. They help to expand blood vessels and eliminate clots.

If the patient is seeing a thrombus approaching the mouth of the veins, then phlebectomy should be performed. After the operation, he can get up on the second day.

If treatment of thrombophlebitis of the lower extremities has been successful, then in the future the state of the vessels should be closely monitored. Very often, patients can not perform hard work. In any case, it is necessary to fight pathology immediately, as soon as it appeared. Then there is the chance of a quick and less painful recovery.
