Spine Repair: Exercises

Restoration of the spine is a necessary measure for surgical intervention. The operation carried out on the vertebral column is classified as one of the most complex and serious. It should be remembered that the recovery can drag on for months and even years. However, a responsible approach to medical recommendations and regular gymnastic practices will help reduce this unpleasant period. Often the success of the entire operation depends on a responsible approach to the recovery phase.

The possibilities are almost unlimited

Just a few decades ago, medicine could not have imagined that operations on the spine would be learned effectively, applying it in a wide range of cases. Previously, this kind of intervention was very risky. But in our days operations have become almost safe, microsurgery is increasingly being used. Due to this, the period of direct intervention is shortened, preparation is simplified, spine restoration takes less time.

Statistics show that a predominant percentage of operations is carried out with a positive result. But the patient must remember that not everything depends on the surgeon. It is equally important to undergo rehabilitation under the supervision of a specialist doctor, to follow his recommendations exactly.

Trauma is not a sentence

The medicine has proved that recovery after a fracture of the spine is absolutely real. The operation is carried out not only in this case, but also for a number of other indications. Rehabilitation measures are worked out in each case individually.

The main tasks of the recovery period:

  • Easing of pain syndrome;
  • Increased healing speed;
  • Prevention of complications;
  • Return of mobility to a person.

The key to success is an individual approach

It is impossible to formulate general recommendations or say what exercises to restore the spine will suit everyone without exception. As a rule, therapy is formed individually. Experts take into account the nature of the trauma and its scale, the complexity of the situation and the individual characteristics of the organism.

Rehabilitation is a period when medicine is doing everything possible to ensure that a person can live with convenience. Remember: right after the operation, pain is brought even by the simplest movements. To cope with the problem, you can practice special poses, as well as sets of exercises to get rid of stress. It will not necessarily be a classical gymnastics. In recent years, the practice of yoga, the exercises that have come from Buddhism, has been increasingly applied.

Time heals and maims

Visiting the medical center, it is necessary to remember that only 1-2 lessons will not yield any result. Practice shows: during operations on the spine, the rehabilitation period rarely lasts less than three months, often prolonged for a year or several years.

The sooner the restoration of the cartilaginous tissue of the spine begins, the less time it will take. If it's been a long time between the operation and the mobility recovery course, you need to consult a high-class doctor with good recommendations so that he can find that set of exercises that will be effective in your case.

Physiotherapy

It is believed that this particular set of measures is most effective when the operative intervention has affected the spine. Treatment, recovery in this case allows to return the person mobility, and therefore, to eliminate the problems of blood circulation. A set of classes is practiced, during which:

  • Muscle tone returns;
  • The blood flow increases;
  • The body comes back to normal in the shortest possible time.

Physiotherapy

In the course of such therapy, the restoration of the cartilaginous tissue of the spine occurs under the influence of:

  • Cold;
  • Heat;
  • Electric current;
  • Ultrasound;
  • Magnetic field;
  • Laser.

In the process of action on the spine, regenerative mechanisms are activated, the wounds heal faster, pain, blood circulation in organs and tissues improves. In recent years, in addition to traditional methods of physiotherapy, new developments have been increasingly used, showing increased effectiveness.

Training apparatus

Postoperative period for the patient is associated with long periods without movement, when a person sits or lies. The human body is normally mobile, so such restrictions are unnatural.

Reducing the negative consequences of surgical intervention, it is recommended to operate the simulators developed for this. They help the person to be upright, despite the recent trauma. Restoration of the spine under such conditions occurs much faster.

Qigong

Come to us from the East exercises Qigong have proven themselves very well in different situations, there is no exception and recovery after surgery on the spine. It is recommended to resort to this technique under the supervision of the doctor responsible for the recovery period of the patient.

Everything begins with the sensation of one's own body. The initial position: the legs are placed at the width of the shoulders so that the feet are parallel to each other. Knees slightly bend, lifting the pelvis, but not setting back the buttocks. Hands hang freely, the chin is lowered and the vertex tends upward. This pose is the starting point for all exercises. It symbolizes the connection between physiology and consciousness.

Crane's neck

With this exercise, the chin is pressed to the neck, pulling forward. Fix the body for a couple of seconds. Then lower the head, moving as smoothly as possible, raise it up and again come to its original position.

Pure breath

If it is supposed to restore the cervical spine, then this practice can be especially useful. Inhale through the nose full, then exhale, releasing the air with your mouth. The abdomen is strained and squeezed into itself. Watch to the body as a whole relaxed. Conduct analogies with a puppet, which no one else controls, and she is finally left to her own will.

Turtle neck

With this exercise, the chin should be carefully pressed directly to the neck, then lower your head down to your chest. In this position, the body is fixed. The head should be parallel to the ground surface, with the chin gradually directed forward. Then the head is raised smoothly so that the eyes look at the sky. Return to the starting position.

The dragon soared to the clouds

Exercise begins with the location of the arms on the sides, lifting them to the shoulders. Then the hands are lowered, the lock is made, raised to the chest. Folded hands are fixed at the level of the forehead, they turn, open their closed palms and aim the whole body towards the sky.

The elbow is lowered, the other is lifted, displacing the thorax. The trunk needs to be turned to that elbow that is raised. When the body passes the point of greatest stress, the position of the elbows is changed, turning the trunk.

Yoga and hernia of the spine

The spine is formed by vertebrae, flexibly connected to each other. Mobility to such a system is guaranteed by intervertebral discs. Load every day, uncomfortable conditions, unhealthy conditions become the causes of the development of various diseases. More than once the patients were diagnosed with a "vertebral hernia".

Degeneration of tissues, weakness of muscles, destruction of bones leads to pathology, the elimination of which in some cases is possible only in an operative way. However, the practice shows that doctors prefer to practice conservative therapy as much as possible, but this is probably not always the case. In any treatment option, one of the most important stages in returning a person to a quality of life is recovery after a hernia of the spine.

As yoga is convinced, muscular effort is the best remedy for restoring a person's health. Correct practice of physical activity allows you to cure all parts of the spine, even when the pathology was started. Yoga for the back affects each part of the body separately, allowing the person to re-experience the joy of free and painless movement. Exercises are called asanas. Restoring the spine through yoga is possible, but to achieve a tangible result, they need to be performed daily.

How it works?

Specificity of yoga is as follows: asanas must be kept for a long time. In occupations, the pressure inside the discs decreases, which positively affects not only the affected areas, but also the healthy ones. With herniated spine, this effect is rightly considered one of the most effective.

In practice, the joints become softer, more mobile, the tissues become elastic, the muscles strengthen. With a static voltage, the motoneuron apparatus is activated, thereby restoring the functional of the spine.

Practice of yoga allows to influence only on the spine in a complex manner, but also on selected organs. This is adjusted by the selection of certain asanas. It is recommended to practice under the supervision of a doctor, practice exercises at least once a day.

Where do we start?

Before you start asanas, do the preparatory exercises: they bend over, turn around, rotate their heads. They move calmly, rhythmically, slowly, repeating every movement 10 times. Having finished, they proceed directly to yoga.

The very first position is tadasana. It is in sipping. After this, you can start other exercises. It is executed as follows:

  1. They sit down in a comfortable position.
  2. They raise their hands.
  3. Pull the spine.
  4. Elbow joints are bent, bred, thereby setting the shoulders parallel to the floor surface.
  5. Brushes are directed upward, forming a figure resembling a candlestick.
  6. Turn the head to the right and left, then toss.
  7. Repeat this several times, from day to day increasing the mobility of the vertebrae.

Ardha Matsiendrasana

If surgery on the spine has been postponed, restoration with the help of yoga necessarily involves the exercise of Ardha Matsiendrasan.

Simplified version: choose a place in the room at a distance of a step from the wall and stand up straight. Inhaling, raise their right hand, turn their bodies and head to the right, trying to reach the wall. On exhalation they return to their original position.

A more complex variant should be practiced daily, as soon as it was possible to master it.

  1. Sit down on the right thigh, bend the right knee, trying to touch your fingers with your left buttock.
  2. Bending the right knee, carry the leg through the other.
  3. The whole body turns left.
  4. The right hand is held under the knee to the left.
  5. The left hand is wound behind the back, trying to close your hands.
  6. Turn your head to the left.
  7. Raise your chin.

It is recommended to do the exercise in the central part of the gymnastics or as a final exercise.

Yoga Triangles

If a person has suffered a fracture of the spine, recovery is delayed for a long time. Without the right set of rehabilitation measures, it is possible to permanently lose mobility and, consequently, quality of life. An effective measure will be the practice of yoga exercises, started as quickly as it will allow health. When you can start, the doctor will tell you exactly when assessing the patient's condition. Remember: hurry to take up yoga, you can cause yourself additional trauma. So be very careful.

So, triangles of yoga. Two are widespread: inverted and lateral. The first is called Parivrita Trikonasana, the second is Parivatrikonasana.

Parivrita Trikonasana is done as follows:

  1. The initial stand is feet shoulder width apart.
  2. The right palm is placed on the floor at the foot to the left with fingers in the direction of the heel.
  3. The left arm is raised.
  4. The head is turned back.
  5. They look at their fingertips.

This exercise can be done both in the beginning, and in the middle or the end of the complex.

Parivatrikasana is done like this:

  1. The initial pose is a wide thrust to the right with a foot bent at the knee to 90 °.
  2. On the left foot, the fingers are directed upwards, on the right leg - to the side.
  3. The body is tilted to the bent knee.
  4. The left arm is pulled upward and to the right.
  5. The right arm is bent, placed on a bent leg (you can just straighten and hang down).
  6. Head upward, looking in front of you.
  7. They strive to ensure that the chest is close to the hip. Day by day they try to shorten this distance.

And than to finish?

As the final exercise is recommended shavasana. It relaxes the body, restores strength. It takes about five minutes, but you can stay in this position for two hours.

The technique is as follows: they lie on their backs, spreading their legs at an angle of 45 °. Muscles relax, breathe deeply, calm down and drive out of the head all thoughts.
