Speech breathing - what, how, why

Correct breathing for the speech process is akin to a good fuel for the engine - beautiful speech is impossible without breathing rhythm and regulated.

To feel the process of breathing is not easy, because it is involuntary, and the person speaking, as a rule, is not realized. Only when the orator lacks air and he is forced to intercept him on the half-word, or the defects are found more serious, then the person starts to think about the process of his breathing.

And the larynx, trachea, bronchi and lungs are involved in it. The act of breathing combines three stages: inhalation (during which the blood receives oxygen), exhalation (a release from the lungs into the blood of decay products) and a pause before a new inspiration.

Distinguish between speech and non-speech breathing. Non-primary, or respiratory physiological, is carried out in an automatic mode. Without it, we are unable to live for half an hour. The breath is equal to the exhalation and occurs through the nose.

Speech breathing is arbitrary, it allows you to spend more expensively the exhaled air. A short, energetic inhalation pauses, followed by a long exhalation - the source of the formation of sounds.

Correct speech breathing prevents the voice device from overworking, contributes to smoothness, intonational expressiveness, observance of pauses in speech, clear diction, uniform loudness, and, certainly, speakers and people who want to improve their communication skills.

Right speech breathing can be fully learned. First they work on the strength of exhalation, its duration. Then over the tempo and rhythm. At the initial stage, breathing techniques are speechless, since physiological breathing must be "put in" for the beginning, and only on its basis speech breathing can be developed. The main task at this stage is to develop a free, long and smooth exhalation. It is very important not to interfere with the diaphragm to perform its natural movements, for a free diaphragm is the guarantee of proper breathing.

The gymnastics of breathing begins very simply.

Exercise One

  • Lie down on your back, place your right hand where the chest ends and the stomach begins, the left one - on the chest.
  • Quietly breathe through your nose, monitoring the process.
  • Strive to feel the rise and fall of the abdomen under the right arm - this is a sign of diaphragmatic breathing. Movements under the left arm give out the upper type of breathing (physiologically peculiar to women).
  • Exercise is carried out for 3-5 minutes.

The second exercise

  • Staying in a supine position, hands straighten along the trunk.
  • Watching your breathing, breathing through your nose.
  • We feel the movements of the abdominal muscles. The breast should be immobile at the same time.
  • Adjust the flow of breath 3-5 minutes, then get up.

Very useful will be such activities as blowing bubbles, launching paper boats, playing with wind instruments, singing.

The result of daily execution of the two above exercises throughout the week will be your natural, unconscious breathing with a diaphragm. After this, you can begin to develop an exhalation.

Exercise Three

  • We inhale air as usual, through the nose.
  • Exhale any free sound. The jaw must be relaxed and slightly ajar.
  • The lead time is about 4 minutes.

It does not matter that the sound produced resembles a groan, it's a sound of healing!

Notice where exactly your sound is born. In the area of the solar plexus is the "conductor of the voice orchestra", which in most people "sleeps".

Wake it up and let your voice sound capacious and convincing!
