Snuff: what is it?

Many people ask the question: "Snuff - what is this?" When defining this genre of video films, one can say briefly that this is a representation of the real murder of a person or group of people, captured without the aid of special effects. Such surveys are made for the purpose of distributing records for entertainment purposes and for making profit from sales.

The very first mention of this concept refers to the events of 1971, when a gang of Charles Manson killed an entire family, capturing everything to film. Experts argue that the brutal crime was committed precisely to obtain a record.

Thus, a more accurate answer to the question: "Snuff - what is it?" - there will be a video recording with deadly scenes. Some killers deliberately recorded their actions on the video. However, documentary shootings also often include shots of executions or accidental deaths. Such videotapes do not belong to this category, since they were not created for commercial purposes. Therefore, reporting from the scene and acts of terrorism - just documentary chronicles, but not snuff (photo of this frame can be seen below).

Similarly, some films containing violent and deadly scenes, executions or suicides, filmed for political (non-commercial) purposes, do not belong to such a genre. Some of the records were originally made randomly, but later spread to gain profit, so they can be ranked in the genre. So, in 2001, during the car races, Dale Earnhardt was killed in the last round of the competition. The shots of the disaster were not shown live, because the camera was fixed on another rider (the leader in the competition), but later this video began to spread with incredible speed. In the same way, video from surveillance cameras and DVRs are now distributed on the Internet, capturing deaths from road accidents, falls from height and other accidents.

Arguing about snuff - what it is - one can not help mentioning the style of videotaping, like the staging of the murder. For the first time this type of shooting appeared in the film "The Flower of Flesh and Blood", published in the late 1980s. The video was "trembling" and indistinct and captured the "murder" of a little girl. After the film became available to the audience, some appealed to the law enforcement agencies, not doubting the reality of the crime. Subsequently, the producers and directors of the project had to prove that the recording was a dramatization.

Another film, which received similar fame, came out even earlier - in 1980. It is called the "Holocaust of cannibals" and is notable for the fact that its creators did not even intend to stage the snuff. That these are genuine records of murders, tortures and the facts of cannibalism, subsequently there were reports in the media. Ruggero Deodato (director) was able to refute these speculations, but the film is currently banned from showing in 60 countries.

We sum up to what has been said. In a full sense, snuff is a real video recording with scenes of murder or other deaths used for commercial distribution.
