Sleepwalking. The reasons for its appearance

Sleepwalking is a fairly common phenomenon. From the scientific point of view, this phenomenon is called somnambulism. In this article, we will talk about what is sleepwalking, the reasons for revealing, by which it occurs, find out whether there are any ways of treating it.

What it is?

Sleepwalking is a specific state of a sleeping person, in which he involuntarily has to perform absolutely unconscious and sometimes ridiculous actions. The most interesting in all this is that after awakening a person generally does not remember anything! A sleepwalker can perform some complicated actions, for example, open doors, leave the house, cross the road, on which cars rush and even talk. Sometimes these "zombies" are also aggressive, but in most cases they themselves are trapped by various hazards during night travel.

Not so long ago in the minds of people there was a strong opinion that somnambulism is directly related to the activity of the Moon. This is not true! Sleepwalking, the causes of which have not yet been elucidated reliably, are not the result of its activity. There is no scientific evidence for this, and accepting the assumption of truth is highly unprofessional! However, until now, some scientists do not deny that the Moon can still exert some influence on the psyche of people.

Mysterious sleepwalking: the causes and symptoms of this phenomenon

General symptoms

  • The sleeping person is always open eyes;
  • The sleeper takes a sitting or any other awake posture;
  • The person during a dream starts somewhere to move or make any other actions;
  • Conversations in a dream;
  • A person on waking does not remember what happened to him at night, he is confused and disoriented.

Sleepwalking in adults. Causes

  • Disorders related to brain activity;
  • Alcohol abuse;
  • The toxic effect of drugs on the body;
  • Any severe illnesses transferred;
  • Stressful situations;
  • Epileptic seizures.

Children's sleepwalking. Causes

Very often this strange phenomenon affects children, but the mechanism of action in this case is slightly different. If there are no serious violations in the child's body, somnambulism disappears with age. The reasons for children's "night travel" are few, but each of them requires special attention:

  • A constant state of anxiety in the child;
  • Lack of sleep lasting a long time;
  • Very severe fatigue or fatigue.

The general picture of somnambulism

In principle, sleepwalking, whose causes are not fully understood, is quite a popular phenomenon. It develops in both adults and children (from 6 years old). The episodes of somnambulism last from a few seconds to half an hour or longer. Most often the sleeping person "comes to life" in the early hours of the night (the third or fourth stage of sleep). If the seizures happen systematically, then you need to visit a doctor. Since there are no special ways to treat somnambulism, the therapy will depend on the causes of this phenomenon, and they, as already noted, are different for each age group. True, there is one common thing - it's heredity.
