The calculation of the length of service is carried out on the basis of certain data. This information citizen must inform the relevant authorities involved in the registration of pensions.

The length of service for calculating pensions is the duration of public or work activity. It is calculated in accordance with the established procedure. Thus, state guarantees are implemented and compensation is paid, which are provided for by government regulations.

The length of service may include periods during which a citizen for certain reasons could not engage in work activities. This condition occurs if these reasons are considered valid by the government.

The length of service can be of different kinds. Among its main types are:

1. Duration of work in the civil service.
2. Insurance experience. In this case, we are talking about the total duration of the work, during which the contributions to the Pension Fund were regularly paid.
3. Special length of service. This concept provides for the appointment of an early payment at the end of a certain work activity.

Today, the minimum work experience is five years. It can include all periods of work activities provided for in the Federal Law, during which pension insurance payments were made. The calculation is carried out regardless of the breaks in it under an employment contract.

The total duration of employment may also include:

1. Passage of service in the troops, internal affairs agencies, penal executive offices and institutions.
2. Periods of receiving social payments in connection with temporary incapacity for work.
3. Moving in a direction from the state employment service to a different locality for employment.
4. The period of parental leave for a child up to 1.5 years.
5. Time of public works.
6. Period of receiving unemployment benefits.
7. Time of serving the sentence in places of deprivation of liberty.
8. Periods of unreasonable attraction of a citizen to criminal liability.
9. The time during which the able-bodied person provided care for a disabled child, a disabled person of the 1st group.

The specified periods are included in the length of service in the case when before them, or immediately after them, the work activity followed, in the course of which deductions were made to the Pension Fund.

The time of study is not included in the general work activity.

Special working time is called the time of working or social activity under special conditions. Such conditions should include, in particular, harmful production, as well as work in severe climatic zones or areas exposed to radioactive radiation. At the end of the periods of the specified special activity, a preferential pension and seniority payments are granted .

There is also the concept of a continuous working period for several or one employer.

In accordance with the adopted law of 2007, the calculation of the sick-list does not depend on the continuous length of service. Calculation of payments for temporary inefficiency is carried out in accordance with the working (insurance) duration of activity. However, it depends only on those periods during which insurance payments were made.

When calculating the total length of service, those periods during which a citizen could not perform labor activity are limited. In some cases, the duration of continuous work is taken into account. If the total period turns out to be less, then the continuous working period is taken as the basis for the calculation.

It is quite difficult to carry out an independent calculation of the total length of service - in some cases precision is required up to several days.
