Symptoms and treatment of balanitis

Inflammation of the glans penis is characterized by balanitis, a pathology often caused by pathogens (streptococci, gonococci, trichomonas, staphylococci, spirochetes, E. coli, etc.), as well as by an allergic reaction to chemicals, herpetic infection. The development of balanitis can be caused by microtraumas of the head of the penis and urethra, secreted with urine salts in the presence of urolithiasis. If immunity is weakened due to failures in the endocrine system, an inflammatory response may occur even to conditionally pathogenic organisms.

Manifestation of the inflammatory process

If treatment of balanitis in men does not begin immediately, the inflammation will begin to develop rapidly and spread to neighboring tissues. The first symptoms are redness, swelling of the penis head, exfoliation of the epidermis, itching, burning. Then there are erosions (single or multiple), subsequently passing into extensive ulcers. Pathological process leads to phimosis, while in the fold of the skin of the prepuce pus accumulates. In rare cases, gangrenous balanitis develops, in which necrotic tissue decay occurs. In case of symptoms of inflammation, consult a urologist or dermatovenereologist. Diagnosis of pathology can be done by examining samples of secretions taken from ulcers formed or from the surface of the skin.

Treatment of balanitis

The choice of method of therapy depends on the form of the pathological process. If the inflammation is poorly expressed, the affected area is washed with disinfectant solutions of nitrofural, potassium permanganate, rivanol. The mentioned procedures must be carried out daily three times. After their implementation, the area is treated with xerophore or tannin. What other means are used to eliminate such a disease as balanitis? Treatment with zinc-based ointment brings quite good results. To apply the drug to the affected area should be several times a day.

Candidiasis balanitis

Therapy should be aimed at destroying the fungus. To this end, you should regularly wash the head of the penis with laundry soap. It will create an alkaline environment in which fungi can not reproduce. In addition, the treatment of balanitis should be performed by rubbing the head and adjacent tissues with the solutions listed above, as well as using levorin or nystatin ointment. Oral antifungal drugs may be prescribed.

Ulcerative balanitis

If the inflammatory process leads to the formation of ulcers, the treatment of balanitis should be carried out by means that promote the regeneration of damaged tissues. These include, for example, "Levomekol" - ointment containing levomitsetin and methyluracil. Also widely used are tetracycline, erythromycin and sintomycin ointments, as well as ointments based on garamycin and fusidine.

Gangrenous balanitis

This form of pathology requires complex therapy. To remove dead tissue, hydrogen peroxide is used. Intravenous and intramuscular injection of antibiotics for two weeks (on average). After this, the treatment of balanitis provides oral administration of antibiotics. At the same time eliminate the intoxication of the body.
