The cause of the ailment are ticks that can live on various parts of the animal's body. But especially often they grab the ears, genitals and stomach of the pussy.

Kinds of mites

On the animal's body, the following types of mites can parasitize:

  • Ear. Parasites cause otodektoz disease.
  • Scabies Ticks. Rarely occurring insects. They are carriers of sarcoptic disease.
  • Pincers Cheyletiella. Another rare species. An animal that has been attacked by these parasites is infected with hayletiellosis.
  • Demodex cati mites provoke the development of demodectic disease.
  • The Notoedres cati mites cause disease under the name of nocteopardia.

Otdetectosis

Ear scabies in cats (treatment we will consider a little later) is a fairly common disease. A domestic cat can catch the ear mite causing this disease . For this, simple contact with a sick street animal is sufficient.

The causative agent of the disease is a microscopic tick not larger than 0.5 mm. Live and reproduce parasites exclusively on the body of animals. For a person they are completely harmless.

Insects for their residence choose the inner surface of the animal's ear, grabbing the eardrum and the ear canal itself. A cat experiences severe itching.

Diagnosis of the disease will help the following behavior of the animal:

  • The cat is very restless;
  • Constantly rubs his ears on objects;
  • Shakes his head;
  • Constantly scratches his ears, tearing them into the blood;
  • Meows and presses against the owner.

Scratched ears without proper care begin to fester.

If you look into the ears of an animal, you can see a strong coating on the inner surface of the auricle. In addition, it gives off a characteristic putrefactive odor.

First, the auricle in the cats extends to the outer and middle ear. If you do not take any measures, then the inner ear is drawn into the infection process. And in the most neglected cases, the brain is affected.

Treatment of auricle scabies

After the diagnosis of "ear scabies" in cats, treatment must begin immediately. First of all, you need to clean the ear from the crusts. To do this, you can use chlorhexidine, hydrogen peroxide or a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Simply moisten the swab in the liquid and gently clean the auricle. For each ear, fresh liquid and a tampon are taken. This will help to avoid infection of a healthy ear (if the disease has not affected both).

As special medicines, special drops are prescribed. Much less often the veterinarian prescribes gel-like remedies and sprays. The medicine is injected into both ear of the animal, even if only one symptom is observed. Be extremely careful with the dosage. Otherwise, you can cause irreparable harm to the animal.

Demodecosis

Demodex mites are present in the hair follicle and sebaceous glands of the animal constantly. The disease develops if their number increases significantly, and the cat's immune system can no longer control them. Demodecticosis brings home pet a lot of physical torment. The disease affects the area around the eyes, the muzzle and neck of the animal.

Diagnose the cat this disease will not be difficult. The first bell is a restless behavior that provokes the strongest itch of the skin. The fact is that mites begin to work hard to gnaw through the moves in all layers of the skin. Therefore, the cat strenuously combs the affected areas of the skin. Infection of damaged surfaces is often associated with the disease.

There are three forms of the disease:

  • Scaly;
  • Pustular and papular;
  • Mixed.

For a scaly form of demodicosis, a weak itch and a loss of hair at the lesion site are characteristic.

Noticing the first symptoms of the disease (scratching the animal, accompanied by loss of hair), the owner must take the cat to the veterinary clinic. The demodicosis detected in the initial stage is cured quite quickly.

How to treat scabies in cats

The mild form of demodectic is treated literally in 10 days. For external use, the use of the drug "Sulfodekortem" or conventional sulfuric ointment is recommended. They are simply carefully rubbed into the mites damaged by mites.

To accelerate the recovery of the animal additionally prescribed fortifying means: complexes of vitamins and immunostimulants, as well as antiparasitic injections. If the affected area of the skin occupies a large area, then the pussy is given a course of antibiotics intramuscularly.

Sarcoptic or pruritic scabies

Zdevoy scabies belongs to the category of contagious, i.e. Contagious when touched, diseases. It is caused by ectoparasites of the Scabies family. The diagnosed itchy scabies in a cat are transmitted to a person and manifested in the form of papular eruptions on the surface of the skin that disappear after the termination of unprotected contact with the infected animal.

Symptomatics

As a habitat, mites select the ears, stomach, elbow and knee joints of the animal. In the absence of treatment, the affected area extends to the entire body of the cat.

The skin in the infection zone is covered with papules. Her additional combing to animals only aggravates the situation. If you do not take any measures, then there is a blackening and thickening of the skin with a subsequent degeneration into the tumor.

Diagnostics

Diagnosis itself is impossible. In the veterinary clinic, the expert makes a diagnosis based on clinical symptoms and laboratory studies of deep scrapings from the skin of the animal. But even during the investigation it is not always possible to identify the tick, so a trial treatment is often prescribed. If the condition of the animal is then improved, then a confirmed diagnosis is made and the procedure is repeated.

Treatment of sarcoptic disease

Many drugs are used from a number of antiparasitic drugs. Itching is removed with the help of antihistamines and hormones. It is also necessary to disinfect the place where the cat sleeps.

Heiletiellosis or wandering dandruff

Pincers cheyletiella - a fairly rare type of parasites, belonging to the category living on the surface of the skin. They do not penetrate the skin of the animal, but parasitize on its surface, feeding on epithelial cells, lymph and tissue fluid.

The disease affects mostly young animals. Adult cats can be carriers of the disease, without having a characteristic symptomatology.

Infection with heiletide

The total life cycle of the tick is 21 days. This should always be taken into account in the treatment of the disease.

Infection occurs in a classical way: during a walk and contact with a sick animal. Outside the host, an adult tick can remain viable for up to 10 days. On the animal's skin appear characteristic scales, very similar to ordinary dandruff. Hence the name of the disease. As the disease progresses, the scales become larger.

It is not characterized by severe itching. Sometimes he is completely absent. Strongly itch the animal can due to an allergic reaction to the parasite itself.

Is the disease dangerous to humans? You can get sick. Infected with cat scabies a person only with close contact, when the animal sleeps nearby, touching the open surface of the skin. In this case, rashes in the form of papules, accompanied by a weak itch. The absence of open contact with a sick cat promotes the disappearance of rashes.

Treatment of ailment

The diagnosis is based on laboratory studies. For this, surface scrapings are taken and a trichogram is performed. But cats are extremely clean from nature, because the eggs of mites can sometimes not be found. In this case, a trial treatment is applied.

As medicinal preparations, drops, sprays and shampoos are prescribed, with which the cat's fur is treated. Additionally, the administration of tablets is prescribed. In advanced cases, injecting courses are prescribed. Also mandatory thorough disinfection of the premises and litter of the animal.

Treatment is carried out by all pets who come in contact with a sick cat.

Notoedrosis

The disease is provoked by the tick Notoedres cati, settling in the skin of the animal. Infection occurs according to the standard scheme: during the contact of a cat with a sick individual. The disease is a type of contagious and contagious to humans.

Young cats are sick much more often than adults, which is explained by their unstable immunity. Notoedrosis - a fairly common scabies in cats. Symptoms at the onset of the disease can be as follows: the pussy has papular eruptions, located on the surface of the superciliary arches, occiput and nose. A cat, experiencing severe itching, starts combing them, spreading parasites all over the body surface.
