Satan's mushroom. What danger is hidden in the 'forest features'

Mycologists consider Satanic fungus to be conditionally inedible. By and large, thermally, of course, you can get rid of harmful substances, but with bitter taste nothing can cope. Therefore, its use in food is almost impossible. Most likely, it is precisely because of these taste qualities that the mushroom pickers have endowed the "forest trait" with this name. After all, in ancient times, mushrooms were going to "taste", everything was tried right on the spot and in raw form. And the double who arranged such a flavoring "surprise", could not count on more than embittered comments.

The forest devil, he's a satanic mushroom, is a poisonous twin of a noble and all-desirable white-fungus, and a bit less like an oak tree. Usually it's rather difficult for an amateur to distinguish inedible mushrooms, and doubles even more so. We'll figure out the differences, so as not only not to spoil the taste of the whole dish with one mushroom, but also to avoid the danger of getting the strongest poisoning.

The satanic fungus inhabits mixed, deciduous and coniferous forests, as a rule, in the southern regions. But its largest cluster is observed, as a rule, in lime, beech and oak forests. He fructifies in late summer, from July to September, quite a bit. The best development is achieved in soil, which is rich in lime.

How to distinguish satanic mushroom. Description:

The hat has a pillow-like shape, smooth, rather fleshy. The diameter is usually 8 cm. Rarely, but there are specimens with a diameter of 30 cm in diameter. The skin is dry and velvety; in mild weather it is slightly mucous, with prolonged rains, the cap is covered with mucus. The color is brownish-gray or olive-gray with a barely noticeable green tint. Satan's mushroom is endowed with a cap with red edges and a wide tubular layer. Spore powder has an olive color. The flesh is rather dense, pale yellow in color. A distinctive feature of the forest line is that immediately after the cut, the flesh begins to turn red, after which it acquires a blue and then a green color. The taste of the pulp is sweetish with an unpleasant odor. The legs of the fungus also have distinctive features. It is thick, tuberiform, yellowish, sometimes with an orange tinge and a red mesh pattern. Closer to the ground, the color of the foot becomes bricky. The height is usually from 5 to 15 cm, and the width is up to 10 cm.

How strong is the poisoning from the Satanic mushroom? The description of symptoms can be found in many reference books, and they are typical for poisoning by many poisonous mushrooms. Signs of intoxication are the following: vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and other disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. The raw Satanic mushroom guarantees a fairly long non-stop vomiting, which is very difficult to combat. Without a certain heat treatment, the probability of poisoning by this fungus is maximally high. However, the amount of toxins that the satanic mushroom is "endowed" is so great that even prolonged cooking or roasting does not guarantee the absence of negative consequences from taking it for food.

How to distinguish the "forest trait" (satanic mushroom) from his noble brother?

First, the foot of the poisonous twin is thicker and has a completely different color of the tubular layer. If in doubt, it's worth chopping the flesh. If it starts to turn green after cutting, and then generally turns blue, this is an indication that you have encountered a satanic mushroom, poisonous and extremely undesirable for eating. The incision of the fungus pulp always remains white, for which this noble product has its name.

Now, armed with new knowledge, you can safely go to the mushrooms, because the chances to spoil the whole dish with one bitter "gift" were reduced. Bon Appetit!
