The Bering Sea is the northernmost

The northernmost Far Eastern sea, named after the famous discoverer of Bering, is located between two large continents. From the Pacific Ocean it is separated by the Commander and Aleutian island groups. It is connected by the Bering Strait with the Chukchi Sea , which belongs to the Arctic Ocean.

The northern and eastern parts are shallow, since there is an extensive shelf zone here. The southern and western suburbs are more deep-water, it is here that the maximum depth is reached, reaching 4151 meters. The Bering Sea in its size and deep water is in the first place among the washing banks of Russia.

Since most of it is located in the arctic and subarctic climatic zones, the water surface in it is warmed up during the summer, only up to 7-10 degrees. In winter, the temperature drops to -1.7 degrees. Salinity of water reaches up to 32 ppm.

The coastline is very indented, there are many bays, bays, peninsulas, straits. By the way, the straits are very deep - up to 2000 meters or more. In the western part, the Bering Sea is often subjected to severe storms, and the southern part is periodically visited by Pacific typhoons.

The relief of the bottom is non-uniform, in the northern and eastern parts there is a flat shelf with depths up to 200 meters. Near the shores of the islands and Kamchatka there is a continental shelf. At the bottom there are many underwater valleys, there are also underwater canyons with steep slopes. The central part of the bottom is a deep-sea zone.

The Bering Sea is considered an important transport area of the World Ocean, through which significant sea transport is carried out, the Northern and Far Eastern sea routes are connected here. Most of the goods for the Asian part of Russia are transported along these sea roads.

Natural wealth on the bottom and in the water

Located between the two mainlands of the Bering Sea is a real natural resource storehouse for many countries. On the coast there are numerous bird markets. In seawater , seals, seals, shrimps, crabs, octopuses, balanuses and more than 60 species of fish live. Here, the commercial catch of pollock, cod, chum, flounder, herring and many others is conducted.

At the bottom of the World Ocean and its individual parts there are large reserves of mineral resources. But not all water areas can boast of this, including the Bering Sea, this confirms the map of minerals. But on its shores already discovered significant deposits of gold, tin and ornamental stones, which makes it possible to assume the presence of these same minerals and on the bottom, in the shelf zone.

The current geological survey confirmed that the poor Bering Sea is not so bad, gold was found in samples that are raised from the bottom in its northern part. On the west coast of North America , coastal marine sediments also have alluvial gold. Recent research scientists have shown that there are oil and gas bearing areas on the sea shelf.
