Rob Cohen, American film actor, screenwriter, director and producer

Rob Cohen - American actor, director, screenwriter and producer - was born in 1949, March 12, in Cornwall (New York). Childhood of the future cinematographer was held in the city of Huberg. There he studied at the Huberg Higher School, and then entered the University of Harvard and graduated in 1973.

Carier start

Immediately after receiving the diploma, Rob Cohen took up the post of producer of the recording company "Motovan Records", in the department of motion pictures. Then he began to produce various musical film projects at the nearest film studios.

His debut work was a melodramatic film called "Redwood". The main role was played by singer Diana Ross, a star of that time. Later, Rob Cohen produced the films "Today is Friday, Thank God", "Vis", "Wandering Stars".

First directorial experience

In 1980, Rob Cohen shot his debut film - the drama "A Little Circle of Friends." The eighties of the 20th century were for the director and producer of the time of grace: he shot a fantasy picture "The Witches of Eastwick", a fantastic action movie "Platoon of Monsters" and an action-packed science fiction with Arnold Schwarzenegger called "The Running Man." Over the movie "The Serpent and the Rainbow" Cohen worked as an executive producer paired with director Wes Craven.

The film "Bird on the Wire" he shot alone, and a criminal comedy "Napraprom" along with Michael J. Fox, the Canadian director and producer.

Epic productions

From the beginning of the nineties Cohen began to study only in directing, in 1993 he released a biographical fighter "Dragon: Bruce Lee," and then an adventure film "The Heart of the Dragon." Among the director's later works, mention should be made of "Daylight", filmed in 1996, with Sylvester Stallone in the title role, and a thriller for teenagers "Skulls" with Paul Walker.

Successful projects

In 2001, the director shot "Fast and Furious" and the first part of "Three Iksov." Both films were produced with the participation of actor Vin Diesel, who managed to bring both pictures into the category of commercially successful ones. "Fast and Furious" was an incentive to create a whole series, which quickly gained six full parts.

"Stealth" and "Mummy"

Thanks to this success, the director has the opportunity to gain access to other large-budget film projects. But one of them - "Stealth" - was defeated, the loss was about seventy million dollars.

However, three years later, Rob Cohen, whose films already had their own audience, managed to rehabilitate himself by releasing the epic film "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor", which raised more than four hundred million dollars, and this is only in the US. Later, the sequel "Mummy 2" was filmed. And after a while the shooting of the third part was completed.

"The Mummy" - continuation

Recently, director Cohen announced his intention to continue shooting the famous epic "Mummy", the third part of which has already been released. Now on the line "Mummy 4". Rob Cohen has not yet decided on the choice of the main negative character: they can again become Rick O'Connell in the performance of Brendan Fraser.

The first two films were shot in Egypt, the third in China. "We have proved that our Mummy can move," Cohen said. "Maybe the fourth series will be shot in Peru or Mexico, it's not decided yet."

In 2013, the director directed the thriller "I, Alex Cross", which tells of a fanatical policeman and a maniac who alone could not cope with. And again, failure, low ratings and insufficient box office. After that, Rob returned to work on the third part of the film "Three X's" with Vin Diesel in the title role. A popular actor ensured the success of the next series.
